I thought Mudcatters would like to know that Fred Jordan had a great send-off at his funeral last Wednesday. Family and friends, including a lot of well known singers,packed the church. There was inspired singing from the congregation, hymns 'Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah', 'Jerusalem, and 'To be a Pilgrim'. Jill Pidd, and the Wilson Family sang folk songs in church, and Fred was carried to graveside to the strains of 'Banks of Sweet Primroses' and 'Farmer's Boy'. Then he was laid to rest in the soil of his beloved Shropshire. A fine, appropriate close to the life of an exceptional man. Those who knew him will never forget him. But we will miss him. Burl

Thanks, burl. Fred's "John Barleycorn" has always been my favorite. Thanks to our friend Mike O'Leary, I was able to meet Fred at Saltburn last August. I will treasure those memories.

On behalf of Fred's family I would like to thank all those who attended his funeral on Wednesday. Thank you for attending, thank you for your condolences, and thank you for your singing at Munslow church, (the vicar can only pray for a singing congregation like that in his church again), and afterwards at Culmington Village Hall. You helped to make the day a truly memorable occasion. Thank you to all his friends in the 'world of folk music' for the support that you have given to myself and my family, it has been greatly appreciated. My phone has not stopped ringing since Uncle Fred's death and the kind tributes have been overwhelming. When time permits we shall get together to read through the moving letters and cards and reflect on an occasion that will be with us forever. It would be difficult for us to contact everyone for obvious reasons. However, we hope as many of you as possible will see this message and pass it on to those who you know may not have the technology! Thank you all.

As a Niece of Fred, and on behalf of all the family, I would like to thank so many of Fred's friends for the Christmas cards etc you have kindly sent to us.
Best wishes to you all in the world of Folk Music for 2003. We hope to see some of you in Whitby in August.

I have many fond memories of Fred and thankfully I had the opportunity to see him perform at numerous festivals and folk clubs.
including the club that I used to run back in the 70's.

He will be sorely missed at Bromyard and indeed at many other festivals and venues where he earned the deepest respect of all who heard him sing.

May he rest in peace "Down The Green Groves"

I was in Sidmouth at the time. I had met Fred a few times in pup sessions around Shropshire. He was a character wasn't he! I remember him droning on and on , telling me that he couldn't understand why I was interested in French tunes as he didn't think they had any melody to them, then slipping down under the table in a semi-coma. We shall not see his like again - at least not in the Miner's Arms!

I remember him at Loughborough several years ago (before it moved) when he collapsed during a session on Saturday morning (I think). They carted him off to hospital and we all feared the worst.

He was back by Sunday afternoon, singing & drinking as if nothing had happened!
