Subject: Review: Blind Blake CD From: Matt Date: 17 Jun 03 - 06:50 AM Just seen a 5CD package of ALL Blind Blake's tracks on Red Lick Records UK. For £14 YES, only £14. Quote from Red Lick BLIND BLAKE 5CD BOXSET AVAILABLE AT LAST! JSP 5CD Boxset only £14.00 JSP7714 Blind Blake:All The Published Sides—5 CDs, 110 sides, remastered, personnels, notes—the whole works. Yet another dynamite release from JSP. PreWar blues fans are delirious with the quality of the McTell, Jefferson and Charley Patton box sets and I know they'll be thrilled to hear JSP have given these Blind Blake recordings the same love, care and attention to detail they gave to the previous sets. If you love Blind Blake or are a fool for superior blues guitar, you need to get this wonderful anthology. At £14.00 for 5CDs, you just can't afford to miss it. I realise Mudcat should be the first point of contact , but I'm sure this price cannot be beat. Matt. |
Subject: RE: Review: Blind Blake CD From: alanabit Date: 17 Jun 03 - 08:42 AM Can't judge the set 'cos I haven't heard it. On most of those old blues recordings the playing is amazing. Trouble is, I have heard some really grisly wax to CD transfers! |

Subject: RE: Review: Blind Blake CD From: songs2play Date: 24 Jun 03 - 04:41 AM Matt, I don't know whether you have got your Box Set of Blind Blake, but I received my copy last Friday, and have been listening to them all weekend. What can I say? I may be biased with being a BB fan, but I thought the CD's were absolutely fantastic. What I realised immediately was, the quality of the BB music I had listened to previously had definitely been improved, by this "Remastered" set. Although in saying that, there are a "few" tracks that are not as good as the rest, but these appear to be earlier recordings of tracks that are on the CD's - yes there are a few different recordings of the same song. 110 tracks - WONDERFUL. s2p |
