Subject: Carotodynia 'Eagle's Syndrome' info? From: SharonA Date: 13 Aug 02 - 04:59 PM Anybody have any information about, or experience with, Carotodynia or "Eagle's Syndrome"? I went to my doctor (general practitioner) AGAIN last night – after several unsuccessful attempts to find out, through the GP and my dentist and my endodontist, the reasons for my puzzling pains – and Carotodynia is the doc's latest diagnosis. I did a bit of research on the web and saw that it's related to "Eagle's Syndrome", whose symptoms sound awfully familiar: the feeling of a foreign body lodged in the throat, neck pain that follows the route of the carotid artery, difficulty swallowing, otalgia (ear pain), and generalized (vague) head pain and facial pain. There's also mention on the internet of this disease often being misdiagnosed as TMJ disease... which is what a couple of dentists have theorized that I have (which is not to say that I might not ALSO have TMJ disease!) My doctor prescribed methylprednisolone (steroid medication) for the inflammation, but from what I'm reading, that won't help me any. I'll take the stuff over the next few days to see if it makes any difference, but I'm not hopeful. So, again, if anyone out there knows anything about this syndrome, please post here. All information, advice, encouragement, etc., will be gratefully appreciated! Thanks!! Sharon |
