Does anyone know a song to which the last line is " and wild flowers will bloom where they lay" ?

I'd be most grateful for help in locating it.

Might not be the one you want, but a good one anyhow.
Wild Roses
Words & Music: Kimmie Rhodes
Irving Music/Gracey-Rhodes Music

I've seen them down in the valley,
wild roses that grow by the side of the road,
and they don't really mind if you pick them
and they don't really care if you leave them alone.

Wild roses... Wild roses open their hearts gently by the by.
Wild roses grow unattended and nobody ever knows why.
When the sun goes down in the valley there's music in the night that it brings,
and the roses quietly listen to the song that the whippoorwill sings.

Wild roses ... wild roses open their hearts gently by the by.
Wild roses grow unattended and nobody ever knows why.
You won't hear the sound of them leaving as they softly fade into the snow,
and they don't really care if you pick them.
Wild roses just grow by the side of the road.
Wild roses just grow by the side of the road.

this is probably not it either...but by Dolly Parton..

I hitched a ride on the wind and since he was my friend I just let him decide where we'd go..when a flower is wild it can always survive wildflowers don't care where they grow..

Here's your blue clicky thing, harpgirl - Dolly Parton Lyrics.

And here's a link to a site that purports to have the lyrics to many of Dolly's songs -- including one called 'Wildflowers', which may be the one that's being requested.

And if anyone would like the guitar chords to the Kimmie Rhodes song that Dale mentioned above, I'd be glad to provide 'em to you.

All the best, Áine

The Dolly Parton song Wildflowers, really has an ol'timey feel to it, especially the version she recorded with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. One of my fav,s... Glen

Aine,

I've got a file in my MusicMatch jukebox that says it is Kimmie Rhodes singing Las Rosas Sauveges which I take it the same song as the one posted by Dave? Anyway, I figure I got it from you and wanted to say thanks! I've been listening to stuff in "shuffle" mode and hadn't heard it in a while. A gorgeous song. Hope I can learn it sometime.

Yep. Kimmie Rhodes sings it both ways, English AND French. Both versions are on her West Texas Heaven CD which is now available again. A VERY worthwhile album. In going to get that link, I see she has a new duet album with Willie Picture In A Frame.
