The reputation of "Tremors" as the worst film ever was pumped up by Dave Swan on my recent visit west, and, thanks to JenEllen, I got to see it finally. Imagine my deep disappointment when it turned out to be a harsh, realistic portrayal of small town life in America, except for the giant man eating earthworms (themselves portrayed with elan and verve). The girl scientist was a particularly vicious indictment of science education in America ("they prefer Pleistocene alluvials, it says here in this "Geology for Dummies" book"). Reba McIntyre reminded me of no one so much as the young Katharine Hepburn, especially in the rec room scene. Has anyone seen Tremors II and III, and are they as excellent as Tremors?

yours, Peter T.

Peter - get out of the sun lad! Take two asperins, play a few tunes on something - get some sleep - things will be better in the morning.

I am a "Tremors" junkie. I especially like the Old Fred segment, and, of course, the rec room sequences.

However, II was so boring I didn't finish watching it and I passed on III.

Glad you got to see this fine example of entertainment. Hmmm, think I'll go put it on right now and watch "Old Stumpy" grab a'holt that axle and earn his nickname.

I forgot to mention the fascinating exploration of male bonding rituals (Kevin Bacon and the other guy) under stress, and the struggle over models of community at the heart of the drama. Where are we to stand when our world is undermined? Are we to retreat to rock, or struggle to restate our relationship to life-giving (and taking) soil? Are we not all food for worms? (And yet, one must remember that the Ford wagon still had its lights on, even after being buried)

yours, Peter T.

Giac, I too am a Tremors junkie. It is, as Peter pointed out, a fine example of male bonding, with a great indictment of the scientific community. The survivalists are portrayed as upstanding paranoid individualists. You can't find a better "B" film than this one.

The sequels are very poor and cannot be compared to the original though the third movie comes close. I recommend that you see the third and if you feel the need to watch something silly then take time to see the second one.

"Runnin' ain't a plan Valentine... Runnin's what ya do when a plan fails."

Tremors is a GREAT movie! Right up there with the likes of Ghostbusters..

I have yet to see #3, but given the dreck-fest that #2 was, I don't expect much at all...

Count me in! I've watched the movie several times. No one mentioned that it is funny. All great Science-run- amuck movies had their humor and memorable lines. I saw part of II or III... not sure which. It was pretty darned close to unwatchable... not even lousy enough for Mystery Science Theater. Once you take Fred Ward out of the mix, you lose a lot. He's like Charles Bronson with a sense of humor. Oxymoron. :-)

II and III sucked. But, I'd have to agree on the first. People dis it, but I thought it was a well done tongue in cheek film.

Dude, "Tremors" is a great movie! I remember watching it when I was about 8 years old and at my cousins house. I had to leave the room though because it got too scary (although the only scary parts are in the beginning). I watched it a couple of years later and thought that it was a great movie! It had some humor, action, and horror.

I loved III, it is hilarious, mind you I'd had a few drinks when I watched it. But I suspect that they stole the idea for their ass-blasters from Harry Potter's Blast Ended Skrewts.
