Subject: The National in Scotland From: Mac Tattie Date: 17 Aug 02 - 05:31 PM Spent a very quick week at Auchincruve, lost voice, didn't sleep, met Dick Greenhaus and Susan of DT. Anyone else there? cheers |
Subject: RE: BS: The National in Scotland From: John Routledge Date: 17 Aug 02 - 05:41 PM Yes we went to the Festival Weekend. The singing was wonderful. The music was also inspirational but I chose to hear more singing. This was the first National in Scotland and I do hope that it becomes an annual event. It looks as if the date may be moved forward a couple of weeks - no clash then with Auchtermuchty. For a first time the atmosphere was incredible and much credit for this must go to Pete Heywood and his team. Looking forward to next year!! |
Subject: RE: BS: The National in Scotland From: andymac Date: 17 Aug 02 - 06:32 PM Well, I didn't go because I was stuck at work and even if home I wouldn't have gone because of the clash with 'Muchty. All credit to Pete Heywood and his team for the idea but to set it up in opposition to one of the best LOCAL traditional festivals was either daft or malevolent. Aren't we supposed to be about encouraging traditions to be locally based (and therefore rooted) as well as fostering a sense of community. I did tackle Pete on this and he said that the dates couldn't be changed . If he does change dates to avoid the clash then I'll attend though I'm sure that if I don't I wouldn't be missed. I just feel it's important to make the stand for local events(and not necesarily be anti this one) |
