Subject: RE: Tune Req: What was that song ?? From: Genie Date: 24 Aug 02 - 01:59 PM Another Button Up Your Overcoat thread here. fB, glad you figured out which song it was you were looking for -- i.e., the Vonda Shepherd song, but which one did she sing? ("Button Up..." is from the 1920s and "You Belong To Me" was a big hit for Jo Stafford in the 1950s.) Genie |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: What was that song ?? From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Apr 10 - 02:39 PM Vonda Shepard recorded YOU BELONG TO ME, but she didn't write it, and she was far from the first or most famous to record it. YOU BELONG TO ME was written by Pee Wee King, Chilton Price, and Redd Stewart. I'm not sure who recorded it first, but Jo Stafford is most often mentioned. She recorded it in 1952. It was also recorded by Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jim Reeves, Joni James, Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Patti Page, Petula Clark, The Duprees, The Orioles, and many, many others. Lyrics have been posted in several threads. (I'm having some computer problems right now so it's difficult to post links.) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: What was that song ?? From: Arkie Date: 26 Apr 10 - 10:43 AM But Vonda Shepard did have a most enjoyable version. I like most versions of the song I have heard but Vonda's is among the best as far as I am concerned. |
Subject: ADDPOP: You Belong to Me From: Genie Date: 03 Sep 10 - 09:22 PM Since the link to the lyrics is defunct, here they are: YOU BELONG TO ME Pee Wee King, Chilton Price, and Redd Stewart © 1952 See the pyramids along the Nile, Watch the sunrise from a tropic isle. Just remember, darling, all the while, You belong to me. See the marketplace in old Algiers, Send me photographs and souvenirs, But remember when a dream appears, You belong to me. I'll be so alone without you, Maybe you'll be lonesome too And blue. Fly the ocean in a silver plane, See a jungle when it's wet with rain. Just remember, till you're home again, You belong to me. |
