This deserves a thread of its own, and just to keep the music connection, I'll bet somebody could write a song...

Ever since their school days, Jim had been one of his closet chums In the early days, Gershwin found it hard to sell his sons In the re-enactment of The Little Big Horn, Bob wanted to be Cuter

More, more, more....!!

The best one I have seen has to be:

"Andrew Lloyd Webber writes another hit musical"

Some of you have probably received, via e-mail, the photo of a Taco Bell restaurant with a marquee reading, "Now Hiring All Shits."

Maybe I'm dense, but despite reading this and rereading it and re-rereading it, I don't get it! Someone please enlighten me!

Bagpuss thinks that the s is missing at the beginning of the second last word...

Um, I think there's supposed to be another letter in front of the word "hit."

The one singer who absolutely drives me nuts because she ALWAYS drops the final consonants from every line she sings not to mention many of the interior words, is Emmy Lou Harris.

Just thought it'd be nice to bring this back to music.

Let's talk about vowels in music... Reba McEntire. I have never been able to stand her singing. There's one song - I can't think of the name of it now - where she turns "him" into "heeeeeooooohm." Argh.

Right Art. I love Emmy Lou's voice, but just yesterday I was listening to a cut from one of her records and I couldn't figure out what she was singing. And I know the song! I wish she'd learn to enunciate.

Declan, it looks like Atlantis had a vowel movement. . . .

I love "Lily of the West" on the Chieftains' Long Black Veil, but ever since I noticed that he always comes off singing "the Lily of the We.." I have a hard time listening to it! It's such a nice track otherwise. Blah.

Dave Barry theorized once that when the islanders were canoing over to colonize Hawaii, most of their consonants were washed overboard...

Skimming this title, I at first wondered if this was the Lost Consonant where they discovered living dinosaurs. The best true billboard I can give is when they were showing the second Star Wars Movie and on the marquee had it listed as:

"The Empire Strikes Blacks"

Maybe not politically correct, but I thought maybe it was a historical picture. :-)

I've mentioned this on another thread, but there used to be a Black Angus restaurant in the Denver area with a big neon sign outside, and the "g" in Angus was blacked out. Leaving the name of the place not so appetizing.

Hey, it's SOMETIMES y (and w)...

The common one, of course, is to black out the S of any Shell sign.

Trevor,

NEVER ask a lady where her vowels are. It is supposed to be too obvious to support mentioning, and if she's bigger than you are you get end up getting a bust in the face.

A

Once when I had my students in a psychology course write down their proposed research topics for an assignment, one guy wrote that his topic would be "How Men Treat Women In Pubic Places." I think it was just a careless mistake.

tv/radio announcers are 'professional' consonant droppers.

guvverment etec.

there's loads of people who instead of losing consonants, actively add them too.

henry cooper [the boxer]talks about 'mountings'[mountains], using the 'kitching'[kitchen].

i've heard klaxon uttered as 'klaxton' too.

any more? or shall i start a new theard for 'dese'?

On adjusted billboards, there is a pest extermination company in Australia called Flick, with the slogan "ONE FLICK AND THEY'RE GONE". Certain wags join up the L and I on their billboards.
