Subject: Shanty session in Boston, any interest? From: Barry Finn Date: 24 Aug 02 - 09:39 PM My son & I were at the Boston Antique & Classic Boat Festival in Salem, Mass. today & stopped by to see the Frienship (17??) merchant ship run by the National Park Service (same org. who runs the famed San Francisco sea sessions lead on by Chanteyranger). While on board I asked in they'd be open to a shanty session & the answer would be "most likely". I tried getting a shanty session going yrs in the Boston area with no luck. Though there are a lot of singers there around here there wasn't much interest. I'm checking here to see if there is any local interest on mudcat that would warrant trying to start one up again (the last one ended a good 20 yrs ago?)? Barry |

Subject: RE: Shanty session in Boston, any interest? From: Peg Date: 27 Aug 02 - 07:46 PM hell yeah!!! While we're at it the Singer's Club is very underattended lately (I hear; I have been away most of the summer). Good on ya, Barry and it would give me an excuse to learn more songs of the sea... Peg

Subject: RE: Shanty session in Boston, any interest? From: KathyW Date: 19 Oct 10 - 12:18 AM Guest Lucky, as it turns out there *is* a shanty session in Boston! The next session is Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 2 to 5 pm at the MIT Sailing Pavilion. There's a Yahoo Group where they make announcements about it: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/NE_ChanteySings/ How do I know this? My friend Jeremy moved from Chicago to Boston and he's been telling me about how great their sing is there. |
Subject: RE: Shanty session in Boston, any interest? From: Charley Noble Date: 19 Oct 10 - 08:09 AM The above "MIT" shanty sessions generally take place on the third Sundays of each month. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Just bin trawling through my pics and just had to pull out one of me Barry and Ken singing together in Scarborough and then dropped onto a clip Ross took of Barry singing CW9 with Ken at the back of the stage. |
