Subject: I'll See You In My Dreams From: vindelis Date: 26 Aug 02 - 01:00 PM Joe Brown sings a lovely version of this song, accompanied on ukelele. He has released the song as a single so I should be able to get the words from there, but does anyone know the chords? From the surfing I have done, all I can acertain, is that it came from a 1951 film starring Doris Day. Many thanks Vindelis. |

Subject: Lyr Add: I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS (Jones, Kahn) From: masato sakurai Date: 26 Aug 02 - 01:23 PM I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS Music by Isham Jones; words by Gus Kahn Published 1924 VERSE 1 Tho' the days are long, Twilight sings a song Of the happiness that used to be. Soon my eyes will close, And in dreams you're always near to me. REFRAIN I'll see you in my dreams, Hold you in my dreams, Someone took you out of my arms, Still I feel the thrill of your charms. Lips that once were mine, Tender eyes that shine, They will light my way tonight, I'll see you in my dreams. VERSE 2 In the dreary gray Of another day, You'll be far away and I'll be blue. Still I hope and pray, Through each weary day, For it brings the night and dreams of you. REPEAT REFRAIN From: Robert Gottlieb and Robert Kimball, Reading Lyrics (Pantheon, 2000, p. 58) ~Masato

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: I'll See You In My Dreams From: vindelis Date: 26 Aug 02 - 06:15 PM Thank you one and all. I know that I now have the chords for the refrain. (Thanks to Mmario's guitar tab). I do not know the melody for the verses, although I do know that it is not the same as the refrain. Therefore I'm not sure if I have the chords for the verse. I do appologise for this some what garbled response, and thank you one and all. |

I think this was the first of 3 or 4 in a series. Its the only one I have. It was republished in Jumpin' Jim's Ukulele Gems Compiled by Jim Beloff and available at most music stores for $12.95. It can be ordered directly from his website http://fleamarketmusic.com/. All of his books are great, especially if you are learning the Uke! Gutbucketeer |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: I'll See You In My Dreams From: GUEST,Ukeman in Boulder Date: 08 May 04 - 02:17 PM It only took me two years but I stumbled on the DVD of "The Concert for George" which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in memory of George Harrison. Great set of DVDs and well worth the price...The bonus for us is that Joe Brown plays "I'll See You In MY Dreams" complete with a superb intro (forgot what they call it). Before that, Sir Paul begins "Somewhere" on the uke before they all launch into the main song with the whole stage group. I still haven't been able to figure out the chords for the intro but I think they're fairly close to the main chords for the tune....Could someone PLEASE email the chords for the tune? PS...I play the electric version of the Gibson Tenor Uke that Sir Paul plays...a very cool instrument indeed. Cheers, Ukeman |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: I'll See You In My Dreams From: Chris in Wheaton Date: 10 May 04 - 11:00 AM True story - My mother was at the Edgewater Beach Hotel (Chicago) in the 1920's - the regular band was Isham Jones. At a break, she and her friends went up to talk to Isham - he was at the piano and said he had just written a song, and wondered what they thought - he played "I'll see you in my dreams." They said it sounded great! Chris in Wheaton |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: I'll See You In My Dreams From: Mark Clark Date: 10 May 04 - 11:31 AM I don't know how I missed this thread when it was new. Better late than never I guess. I sure want to thank MMario for the tab link. The tab was posted on the site because I'll See You In My Dreams was one of Merle Travis' signature instrumentals and Mike (the site owner) is a big fan of Merle's playing. When I saw the tab I realized it was an arrangement of Merle's rendition. That inspired me to browse around the site and discovered a whole page of Travis/Atkins/thumbpicking transcriptions. This is an incredible resource for any thumbpicker or fingerstyle guitarist. It sure made my day. A belated thanks, MMario. - Mark |

The Merle Travis tune and the song that Joe Brown sings are one and the same. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: I'll See You In My Dreams From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Nov 04 - 02:41 PM I suppose by "different piece of music" Ed meant "different arrangement". An unusual meaning to give the expression, but I suppose it could be argued that it is justifiable. Very confusing though. |
