Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ice Pick Blues(?) From: GUEST,999 Date: 02 Nov 12 - 01:44 PM Ice Pick Blues Ice Pick Blues - Whistlin' Alex Moore I thought my woman had the blues, she looked so worried and sick I thought my woman had the blues, she looked so worried and sick Come to find out in her bosom she's carryin' an old ice pick Well she wasn't sick, I could see trouble in her eyes Well she wasn't sick, I could see trouble in her eyes She want to stick me with that ice pick, Lord and I don't know why Half a pint in one hand, cigarette between her lips Half a pint in one hand, a cigarette between her lips Tryin' to get that ice pick out with her fingertips Whistled verse Why don't you go to bed woman and put that old ice pick down? Why don't you go to bed woman and put that old ice pick down? From room to room squabblin' half the night in your gown from http://weeniecampbell.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ice_Pick_Blues |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ice Pick Blues(?) From: GUEST,Folkpunch Date: 02 Nov 12 - 01:02 AM I was very surprised to find this! This is a song I have been looking for for years. I used to sing this song a long time ago, back in the late 60's and early 70's. I never knew who wrote it and would love to find out. It has no relation to the Alex Moore song. I got it off a reel to reel tape of a local guy in the lower SF Bay Area named Mark Diatlo. He later disappeared. One night in Berkeley in some coffee house in probably 1968 I heard it on the record player but didn't have to brains to ask who it was. So I know it's been recorded. And I know this is an old thread but maybe somebody will notice and can fill in a gap or two. These are the complete lyrics as I used to sing them. I called it "The Ice Pick Blues" but it probably wasn't the real name. Ice Pick Blues (?) I woke up this morning it was a cold gray dawn I rolled over on my pillow saw my baby was gone I saw her this morning and I asked her tonight I said where were you baby in that first daylight the answer that she gave stabbed me to my heart she said "I was sleepin' with my old sweet heart" Well, I didn't ask her why didn't try to understand I just said "I'm gonna quit you leave you with that other man" I slammed, slammed the door and I started in to go when I heard her scream and my blood ran cold there's an ice pick, ice pick rollin' rollin' on the floor and my baby was lyin' by the kitchen door an ice pick makes such a very little hole and no blood comes but the flesh is dry and cold there's a hospital corridor so long and bright and they brought her down in that pale moon light the state police came in a very little while said "if that girl dies you'll stand a murder trial" the judge took my belt and my shoe laces too so I could not do what my baby tried to do if my baby lives and I leave here I'm gonna make her a pendant shape it like a tear I'm hang, hang it down between my bay's breasts right on the spot where that cold steel rests |
Subject: Lyr Add: ICE PICK BLUES (Whistlin' Alex Moore) From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Mar 08 - 08:01 AM I found these lyrics in Blues and the Poetic Spirit by Paul Garon: (I'm not sure they're complete.) ICE PICK BLUES Whistlin' Alex Moore I thought my woman had the blues; she looked so worried and sick. (2x) Come to find out in her bosom, she's carryin' an old ice pick. But she wasn't sick. I could see trouble in her eyes. (2x) She wanted to stick me with that ice pick, Lord, and I don't know why. Half a pint in one hand, a cigarette between her lips, (2x) Tryin' to get that ice pick out with her fingertips. Why don't you go to bed, woman, and put that old ice pick down? (2x) From room to room squabbling, |
