Subject: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Justa Picker Date: 05 Sep 02 - 11:41 AM I've received enough back channel interest from some of the members here to finally put forth a CD, and I've finally accumulated enough stuff to compile one. The majority of the songs are instrumentals, and mostly solo fingerpicking work...but there are a few production numbers on it as well as several original compositions. There are several tracks with vocals (not mine though *g*) contributed by my friend Joanne Shaw, and as well two tracks where Rick contributed his considerable dobro and mandolin talents. I'd like to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, in making limited numbers of this CD available to those that might want it. Stone #1 is to make the CD available to whomever would like one; and Stone # 2 is to donate the proceeds above my costs and time for burning, processing, packaging and postage (and whatever royalties I have to kick back to the appropriate copyright owners), to Max and Mudcat, which I estimate to be approximately 50% of each purchase. The track listings and info are all on this page (which includes several tracks in their entirety to preview or download) and has more information concerning the guitars used (Martins mostly) and recording techniques employed than you probably need or want. *g* If interested you can e-mail me, through the link on that page, or PM me here. |

Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: katlaughing Date: 05 Sep 02 - 12:37 PM Oh boy! Phoaks this is Pure, Grade AAA+++. Go listen to those teasers...the man can PICK...ol' "Justa" is quite the misnomer, ain't no "justa" about it! NOW I understand about Martins...I've never heard such smoooootth pickin' before. I've heard a preview of one cut with Brother Fielding and these two just sound like they were born to pick together, oustanding playing and mixing, as well as original tunes! Great Music + Faneffingtastic Pickin' + $$$ for the Mudcat...what are ya waiting for?! JP, I've just sent you my PM, put me down for at least one, please, darlin'! Congratulations!! luvyakat aka No.1 Chippy! |

Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Big Mick Date: 05 Sep 02 - 01:08 PM Folks, the CD is $10.00 US which includes shipping and handling. This might be one of the best bargains around. I sat and watched Justa pick with a group that very well may have represented Canada's finest guitar players. He absolutely belonged in that group. He is talented as hell. And the guitar is only one of his instruments. He stepped up to the piano at Paul Mills studio and entertained the hell out of all of us. He is a very fine musician. He and Rick just seem to flow together. I have ordered my copy without even listening to the tracks, as I know how good it will be. Justa simply wouldn't let it out of the house if it wasn't. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Mudlark Date: 05 Sep 02 - 01:11 PM Whoa-HO! Would that I could make MY Martin sound like that! Put me down for one, please, Justa |

Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Sep 02 - 04:27 PM He's unreal kinda' ain't he? Mick and Kat have both said it......I've been provileged to listen to many of these as one of JP's "backchannelers" and the guy simply picks up a storm......And what a great thing to do for the 'Cat too huh? If you haven't heard him, you need to........You truly need to!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Áine Date: 05 Sep 02 - 04:57 PM I'm only Justapicker's No. 2 Chippy; but, I have to agree with everyone else that he's one of the best there is -- I was listening to his playing the other night, and then I put on a CD of one of the most famous fingerstyle guitar players in the world (who shall remain unnamed, but do the initials LK mean anything??) -- and, to tell the truth, the first thought that jumped to my mind was, 'Dang, Justapicker's better than that!' If you haven't ever thought of the guitar as an instrument of ART, then getting Justapicker's CD will change your mind forever. 'Nuff said. -- Áine |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Justa Picker Date: 05 Sep 02 - 05:52 PM Okay Chippies, *g* I appreciate the (all of the) enthusiastic comments....but making comparisons to "LK" is really pushing it. *BBG* Maybe in another 20 years of 8 hour days of solid practising, LK might let me go get a coffee for him. *g* Settle down now. *g* I'm just a picker, and its just some fingerpicking music. The guitars themselves sound nice though. *g* |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Áine Date: 05 Sep 02 - 06:27 PM Dear Michael, To your most humble 'I'm just a picker, and its just some fingerpicking music -- as my daddy would have said, 'Pushmataha!' In other words, 'balderdash!' ;-) And as to settlin' down -- sorry, babe -- your playin' jus' gets me too hot under the collar! ;-) Luv ya, Áine |

(Juneau mail is not too swift, though- I like to say that sometimes the plane isn't full yet.) I'm looking forward to getting them. I may have to get more later- there are some pickers here that would love to hear you- so keep the CD burner handy. |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: GUEST,Sue Date: 08 Sep 02 - 04:38 PM Marvelous! Have e-mailed you for my copy. |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Big Mick Date: 08 Sep 02 - 11:30 PM Cool, Michael. I am anxious to get my copy. I want to hear the production numbers, and the vocalist. That is something I have not heard you do, which is to accompany a vocalist. Folks, this is a great way to support the Mudcat and get something that will give you great enjoyment in the process. How about we hop on this. The price is great to boot. Mick |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Ebbie Date: 09 Sep 02 - 12:45 AM Around here, the price of any old CD is $16, so this is a real opportunity. And this is not just any old CD. Not to mention that the 'Cat will get a share. If you have a chance to hear JP, grab it. He's excellent- and his phrasing and balanced clarity are exceptional.

Fantastic music, Michael -- Big hugs and snogs to ya, darlin' -- BTW, do we still have a date at the fountain? Don't forget to bring your glitter (hehehe) -- Áine (aka No. 2 Justapicker Chippy) |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Steve in Idaho Date: 11 Sep 02 - 11:54 AM I downloaded some of the music from his website a while back (with permission) to make a CD - still one of my favorites. Good one Justa - Steve |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Big Mick Date: 12 Sep 02 - 08:14 AM Folks, just a reminder. Justa has made this as a fundraiser for the Mudcat. I would strongly encourage those that are interested in supporting this place to order this CD. And you get some great music in the bargain. Pretty painless way to help out. Justa and Rick are two of the finest talents around. Mick |

Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Ebbie Date: 14 Sep 02 - 04:45 PM Mine has not yet gotten here, JP, but not to worry. Sometimes mail even from the 'lower 48' has taken 11 days to reach here and commonly takes 8. Who knows how long it might take from a furrrrrin country...! (Now that I've said this, of course it will come today. |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Giac Date: 14 Sep 02 - 07:01 PM Just got my copy and popped it in . . . oh my! Very tasty, Justa Picker, and friends. "Anytime" just kills me. I've put it on continuous play now, gotta go! Mary ~8oD |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Mudlark Date: 14 Sep 02 - 07:39 PM I am so envious of all who have received their CD's. My little town is a long way from anywhere so I'm sure it will get here eventually, but until then color me green! |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Justa Picker Date: 16 Sep 02 - 10:49 AM Should be there anytime, Mudlark. |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: katlaughing Date: 17 Sep 02 - 04:54 PM Ah, geez, it took forever to get here, too, but that's not JP's fault! Ebbie, I hope it gets to you before you go south for a few weeks 'cause I'd hate for you to have to wait any longer! Yours, too, Mudlark. I cannot stop listening to this CD! The playing is so smooooooooth, utterly professional. The arrangements are fine pieces of art the way they intertwine, accent, and harmonise, esp. when he gets Rick going in there with the dobro and mando. And, those Martins! NOW, I understand why so many of you are ga-ga over Martins!**BG** BUT, my favourite things about the whole CD are JP's own compositions. They are just superb, esp. Nazareth Pilgrim Blues. Just close your eyes and see what kind of cinemascope that conjures up in yer mind! So much joy in da blues! Thanks, JPdarlin'! Ya done superb! luvya and all those Cotten-pickin' strings, kat |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: greg stephens Date: 17 Sep 02 - 06:13 PM What guitar numbers did Lee Konitz record? |

Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: katlaughing Date: 17 Sep 02 - 06:32 PM LOL! Hey, Ebbie and MUdlark, I dind't mean for that first bit to sound as though you were blaming JP. I meant it as in the mail takes forever here, just like where you'all are!*bg* Sorry! |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Ebbie Date: 18 Sep 02 - 12:53 AM Well, I'll have to wait until mid-October to get mine! As I've said before, mail service to Juneau, Alaska is not the swiftest. It didn't come today, and the Post Office will hold my mail until I get back. But at least I have it to look forward to. It will be just as good then as it would have been now. So thanks in advance, JP. |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: JenEllen Date: 19 Sep 02 - 11:47 AM You lil'Canajun sweet potato, you! I saw this thread in passing, thinking "Gotta drop that guy a line after the month from Hell is over..." but the month from Hell kept stretching on. What happens? I get to the cabin last night to find a package from way up north. WONDERFUL music, Michael. (as well as wonderful intuition and timing in sending it) It even made hanging wallpaper a joy. It's goin' out with me again today for another listen. Thank you. S'pose this means I'm a groupie now too? (sweet jaysus--I nearly typed "gropey"--take'er awaaaaay, Aine!) ~yergal |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Áine Date: 19 Sep 02 - 11:53 AM Hey JenEllen -- The boy is all that, ain't he? *BG* Now, Justapicker is too cool for 'groupies'; so, I guess that makes you 'No. 3 Justapicker Chippy'! But, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a 'gropie' now and then (hehehe) . . . just kiddin', Michael, just kiddin'! -- Áine |

Thank you, thank you Michael for this wonderful CD....I love everything on it and can't wait to play it again and again. |
Subject: RE: CD Release - Justa Picker From: Lane Date: 24 Sep 02 - 12:55 AM I have to second Mudlark's message... just got mine today and WOW - I tell you, it's a good a picking, and as well recorded as much of what you'll find commercially - and for the price, it's not only a bargain, but a big benefit to the Mudcat - buy one, or two, you won't be disappointed - QUITE the contrary! Lane |
