Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Sep 02 - 12:57 PM Interesting post, Fred. Most of the people in this society are in fact enslaved...and deep down they know it. Our pretensions of "freedom" are laughable...but not so funny. No wonder a lot of people look at porn while on the job. Is there a free human being out there somewhere? I want to meet that person! - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: toadfrog Date: 08 Sep 02 - 06:08 PM Gee, Little Hawk, 1. I like porn, or some of it. What, exactly, is wrong with that? All I have seen in this thread is the usual stuff about how anyone different from the writer must be sick, "imature," or whatever. That kind of thinking is not part of the solution, it's part of the problem. 2. The stuff on the web is such garbage I would walk miles to get away from it. And the way those sights are designed to trap people is really scary. That's how the Free Market often works. 3. There is a convention in many circles that says, if you can get away with goofing off on the job it indicates cleverness. You see that especially in the Army, where people used to spend more energy and ingenuity avoiding work than it would have taken to do it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Bill D Date: 08 Sep 02 - 07:44 PM " The stuff on the web is such garbage " ...pretty broad statement.
The web is HUGE...as in BILLIONS of pages. Anything is available, from the garbage you mention,

Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: toadfrog Date: 08 Sep 02 - 07:58 PM Sure, Bill D. If you say so, you probably know more than I do. I probably don't have sufficient patience to find the better stuff. But my main point was, all the stuff about "immaturity" and so forth gets annoying. "Immature" is what a parent calls his kid when the kid is about to get grounded. It is a special term used to exercise control over kids. I guess a kid who looks at porn can get grounded. But if you want to persuade someone over (say) 35, it is better to have a real reason. |

Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: GUEST,Fred Miller Date: 09 Sep 02 - 10:00 AM I hope I didn't seem to say that any interest in porn was immature, I just think I could make better porn than any I've seen. I got my first lead on a commision to paint a nude portrait last week, and hope it works out. Little Hawk, I think it's a relative thing, the freedom biz. Most people think if they had more money they'd be free, but the porn-surfing guys I referred to worked with me in a business serving insecure wealthy people who needed professional help to know what to like. That is, they wanted rules, wanted to do what they were supposed to do. So I disagree that the freedom question isn't funny, I think it's very funny. What we did, what I did, to effect a semblance of freedom while showing up and working at this absurd job, was to frame it as research for a different purpose--we were developing The Movie about it, and deciding who should play each of us, tossing around script ideas, stylistic devices, set pieces. Making a story of your experiences, trying to make sense of the crazy world is a free and natural thing to do, and almost any silly job can feed it. I worked with a lot of young guys who knew porn better than I did, I'm sure they surfed it there sometime or another, wouldn't have been embarrassed about it turning up. It would embarrass the employer's more. When my daughter started kindergarden it was hard for a while, it was a long day for her. I told her to look at it this way, she played "School" sometimes, for fun, so, try to keep that feeling of a game about it. I think she got the hang of it, she loves school, most of the time. My dad had an excellent essay about how work and play are so unhealthily divided, weekdays and weekends, but the essays havent been collected yet. It's odd how sometimes people will do things for fun that you could never pay them to do as a job. There's a lot of freedom in simply being able to look at it differently, being able to enjoy what you're not "supposed" to-- get paid for what other people will pay to do--like physical exercise, or strategy games. That's what I do, at least. |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Sep 02 - 01:39 PM toadfrog - Well, if you like it, fine with me. Almost everyone appears immature in certain respects from almost anyone else's particular vantage point, but it's all just a matter of opinion, isn't it? BTW, I am keenly aware of my own immaturity...in a number of respects...I don't have room here to list them all. Nor the inclination to. :-) Then too, anytime you or I make a strong statement about anything it's likely to sound judgemental (and wrong) to someone. The only way to escape accusations of being judgemental is to express no opinions at all. Perhaps this is one reason why some sages have taken a vow of silence. ("Even a fool is thought wise if he remains silent") Or maybe they really truly reached the point where they had genuinely stopped judging others... That would be a pretty radical state of mind in this world. I wonder how one would pursue a career in politics, given that attitude? Fred - Well, actually freedom is an inner condition. I regret to say that I am nowhere near it at this point. I have not been free since I was...oh...maybe 6 years old or thereabouts. As one of the enslaved, I rail now and then about slavery, like a hamster chewing on the bars of its cage. DougR - Yeah, right! :-) Well, maybe we will meet at some point. You're out West somewhere, aren't you? - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Dave Bryant Date: 10 Sep 02 - 06:57 AM Perhaps we all have to ask ourselves - Why is surfing Porno sites at work any worse than spending the time on the Mudcat ? I'm at work at the moment and so are many other 'Catters from what I can see of their posting times. |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Albatross Date: 10 Sep 02 - 07:27 AM A very senior manager was fired recently after an investigation inspired by a disaffected ex worker (revenge?) and it was found that he had been using his isdn line 70% for another company. A conflict of interest was seen and he was fired. I don't think all computer users realise how much big brother can view what they are doing. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone doesn't have some skeleton's in the cupboard, even the 'holier than thou' brigade. Does the 'guest unamed mudcatter' who started this thread ever have any fantasies that they would rather be kept secret? How about investigating the big brother? But I do agree with you it is childish. Maybe there's a Peter Pan in all of us. I am absolutely obsessed with getting emails at the moment. Sometimes I seem to check every 5 minutes to see if anyone has sent me anything. That must be some form of madness. It was great to go on holiday in Ireland play music and not log on for two weeks. By the way Peter Pan's JM Barrie came from KirrieMuir where there was a good festival last weekend. |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Little Hawk Date: 10 Sep 02 - 05:37 PM Damn right, Albatross! I opened my closet the other day, and so many skeletons fell out that it took my some time to extricate myself and call the dog, in hopes he would drag some of the bones away. As for my cupboard, I don't even consider opening it at this point. People who Mudcat while at work should be put in the stocks and subjected to ridicule by contemptuous mobs of passersby and street urchins. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: GUEST,Unnamed Mudcatter Date: 10 Sep 02 - 05:56 PM Albatross, my fantasies have changed a bit after having to review thousands of downloaded photos--in a large part because I've seen how silly people look while they're doing the things I've fancied-- Don't misunderstand me, I am not the one who does the firing, I am just a wage slave who has had to clean up some very dirty computers-- |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: GUEST,Just Amy Date: 10 Sep 02 - 07:46 PM Scream - yell - loud carrying on!!!!! I was just on Goggle looking for clipart for a newsletter. I typed in "free clipart"+music. I then mistakenly clicked on "I'm feeling lucky" All of a sudden I have multiple porno pop ups. The minute I click one off, another one comes up. I had to turn off my computer to get it to stop. What is up with this? I'll never use Goggle again! |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: GUEST,Fred Miller Date: 11 Sep 02 - 09:56 AM Just Amy, I had the same thing happen once looking up a song lyric. It's hard to get rid of. Some make themselves your homepage and you have to go in and re-set it. Also be careful about e-mails with friendly but vague greetings, and never blue-click any til you know who it is.. Before you hit a close button, watch the labeling script, it's often a "more ads" button disguised as a close button. Then, go through off-line cookies, off-line content. It's a pain. I need my closet space, so my skeletons are sitting around out in the open, propped up in chairs as if playing cards, etc. |

Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 11 Sep 02 - 07:04 PM Soccoro, to me they were just skyscrapers. Any beauty they had was lost on me. Maybe that's why I'm failing to see a connection with internet porn? Spot on post, toadfrog. And Bill D, that could have been me speaking! |

Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Socorro Date: 15 Sep 02 - 12:11 AM Well, just to clarify (I hope) you know how "it takes one to know one"? That's why i think i know a bit about immaturity! And, yes i speak from experience. When i was about 13, some people i was baby-sitting for had a lot of porn (not out in the open - I must have been nosing around) and i was absolutely fascinated, and probably would have gotten hooked, if i hadn't been so afraid my sister would out me - she was their regular babysitter, and she found my stash over there, called me and said, "Socorro, where did you find this TRASH!!" in her best imitation of a shocked parent. I must say, however, that when i to some degree, "got a life", i personally just had no need for it. I have looked for quality erotica, and gave up. |
Subject: RE: BS: Surfing sex sites at work? WHY??????? From: Socorro Date: 15 Sep 02 - 12:21 AM Fionn, I think i misread your post; no wonder you don't understand my reply. When i saw your reference to "sex with children" followed closely by something like "that doesn't hurt anyone", I responded to something which, on re-reading, you clearly didn't mean at all. |
