Subject: RE: OBIT: Bobby Clancy: RIP From: Rick Fielding Date: 07 Sep 02 - 10:26 AM Saw him with the boys a few years ago in concert. I believe (not sure) that it was a photograph of Peg and Bobby Clancy's marriage that illustrated the song Mari's Weddin' in The Clancy brothers' Songbook. R.I.P. Rick |

Subject: RE: OBIT: Bobby Clancy: RIP From: Tiger Date: 08 Sep 02 - 11:10 AM This is very hard news. A fine gentleman and entertainer. I had the opportunity to speak with him at several of his shows and he was a wonderful interview. I mentioned in the get well thread that his version of "Lili Marlene" was the most poignant I'd heard - find it if you can. He leaves daughter Aoife and son Finbarr, both fine musicians, and capable bearers of the torch. A sad, sad day, but we will remember him well.
That I should rise and you should not, I'll gently rise and softly call, Good night, and joy be with you all. ......."The Parting Glass" |

Subject: RE: OBIT: Bobby Clancy: RIP From: GUEST,sbarrett@cruzio.com Date: 09 Sep 02 - 10:41 AM That is indeed a photo of Bobby at the occasion of his marriage. I, too, had several opportunities to meet (and sing!) with Bobby. A rare, generous man in every way. He is sadly missed. On Liam's website is a photo tribute to Bobby, clickable from the front page. Subject: RE: OBIT: Bobby Clancy: RIP From: GUEST,Glade Date: 09 Sep 02 - 03:30 PM Such a loss. I love the Clanceys (& Tommy Makem). When I was first married, my father-in-law,(a Scotsman! - who loves all Celtic music)gave me some Clancy albums. I used to wash the dishes by their rousing music. Glade |
Subject: RE: OBIT: Bobby Clancy: RIP From: Liam's Brother Date: 09 Sep 02 - 04:51 PM Very sorry to hear about Bobby. I was starting to interview Aoife a few weeks back when she returned to Ireland. One of the topics we touched on was her musical relationship with her father. She told me they had recorded together. Glad she had a chance to see him.
All the best, |

Subject: RE: OBIT: Bobby Clancy: RIP From: The Pooka Date: 08 Oct 02 - 10:46 PM I missed this thread when it was current; and I refresh it now, though sadly, because I feel personally obligated to add my own condolence and tribute to those so finely expressed above. This was a fine man and songman, of a grand singing family, his loss most sorely to be grieved. Thank God we have had the gift of him, and of them; and, too, that the next generation of Clancys & of Makems carry on the work. Fare thee well Bobby Clancy. With Tom and Paddy have a wee drop of the "holy water" for us would ye. Until we meet again. |
