Here in the Sacramento area, summer is something to be endured - smog, and the temperature often gets above 100 degrees. It's better where I am now, at 2,300 feet above sea level, but summer is a relatively miserable season in most places in California.
Yes, it's much better now here, too.

What Joe Offer said...only it often hits 114 on my front porch, in deep shade. Just the last 2 days it has cooled down...it can't last forever, and pretty soon I'll be scrambling for firewood.

It's even startin' to cool off a little down here in Bubbaland. Worked outside for a couple of hours today and only went through one tee-shirt! Some years we're still having three and four tee-shirt days in early September.

I've been told that in this part of Georgia (Columbus), it stays in the nineties even at night around this time of year. We've been lucky the past couple of weeks. The days haven't been as oppressive as they usually are, and the evenings and nights have been quite pleasent.

There's something kind of magical about the sky around here. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but it's rather enchanting.

Man. Our temperatures are ranging from 55 down to 40. Won't be long until our first frost at this rate.

CarolC, I've noticed something somewhat awesome to a northern ga visitor in southern ga, esp. getting down around Savannah...

I want to go back and see what that is sometime.

Starting to get chilly mornings, coloured leaves and heavy dew now, turning the spider webs to fairy gowns.... my favourite time of the year.

oh, nice image Liz!

It was close to 90 in Boston today, sunny but breezy and not too humid. It will get steamy tomorrow though. We had a nice break this past week, days in the high 60s, nights in the low 50s. I was not here for much of the summer but when I was, it was utterly miserable--hot and humid-- and from what I heard most of the summer was like that. The funny thing is to watch tourists who chose Boston as a summer vacation spot because they think, Oh, New England, on the ocean, it must be cool there!

I think it used to be a lot cooler here, with about two weeks of hot muggies in July. Now the wretched temps stretch from June thru August. Global warming anyone?

I am looking forward to October.

Just getting into spring in Australia. The wattle is in flower and daytime temperatures in Canberra are climbing into the high teens. Still plenty more frosts to go though - we usually get a tomato plant killer in October sometime.

Yep! This is the weather that sends the Muse to overtime heavenlies.... Damp, misty and introverted with a touch of dewdrop ions and icons shining the silvery sheen... Chilly, but... didn't I have some sweaters in here somewhere? Oh! but the music!... the music! ttr

Apologies for the empty post... What I meant to say was:

Hasn't the weather this summer been shite?
It's rained every day and rained every night
The people I meet here are all pasty-white
From staying in out of the rain

I don't go for walks now, I go for a swim,
The garden is flooded, the roof's letting in
And I think I've begun to develop a fin
I wish it would stop bloody raining..

There... that about sums it up for Scotland.

Cheers

Steven (tune?... try "the Muckin o Geordie's Byre)

Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada : Last week we had a frost just ten miles to the north. Many tomato plants were taken by surprise. The daily was just over 20C. Now it's back to high twenties and muggy, but the full moon is on the 21, so a change is, I hope, on the way. Hard to believe our first snow is only two months away.
