Messages seem to being posted before theyve even been typed, several minutes by my reckoning. Is there some kind of time machine involved?

See what I mean? It says my post arrived at 7.32. It's not 7.32 yet.

The clock on the Mudcat server is off by a few minutes, nothing magical. I have a friend who's computer clock is off by several hours, she sends me replies before I send her the message!

I find this immensely useful.. in two ways - first off, I can always use a couple of minutes spare... but in my case, I can be posting stuff several hours before I even got up!
The benefit there is that I can console myself with the fact that I haven't been wasting time browsing in the Mudcat when I should have been working.

I say, "Keep it up!" .. we need more of this creative timekeeping..

Cheers

Steven

greg, don't complain about a few minutes. It is 3:10PM right now here, but my posting will appear to be written at 9:something AM ...
;-)
(did I mention that I sit on the better side of the Atlantic? ;-) )

The posting times are recorded according to the clock in the server.
As this clock is not exact all postings have slightly inexact times. Who cares?

You did not use the word "complain" or "complaint", but with my limited understanding of the English language, it sounded like a complaint.
Sorry if I offended you.

Thanks for that Mudguard. Now all I have to do is to persuade my local Library to install it. PP

Linux has automatic time correction. I think Windows server does, too. Some people might find it too much hassle to set up. Besides, computer clocks are incapable of being accurate to less than 1/2 a second.

I wasn't that far off. I am obsessive about time, so I am surprise that I let that happen. Anyway, we're synced up now.

PC clocks??!! What the Hell is THAT all about??

I thought we'd agreed that it would be "Ethically Correct" Clocks.

Rick (to whom, time is simply irrelevant)

"Time Has Made a Change in Me"

and Max has made change in time...

(I have a time-synching program that I never let get more than a few seconds off...it lets me set my watch and know exactly how long I can surf before my TV program come on...etc. It even shows me what time it is all over the world and mileage distances between places...and counts the time to & from designated events...How long till Christmas? 2543 hours as I type this)

Before I retired, I would check the US Naval Observatory at least once a week. I think that I did it so that I would never be late for a meeting. Now, who cares?

Mudcat time is the right time by definition. It's the rest of the world that gets it wrong now and then. (As is demonstrated by http://www.worldtimeserver.com/, which provides a good way of finding what time the deluded thinks it is generally and particularly, in every part of the globe, and you can set your computer to take its time from Addis Ababa or Honolulu or wherever you like.)

Even Pennsylvania, which is the nearest approach to Mudcat time.

A friend of mine used to send me emails that disappeared to the back of the file and could lay unnoticed there for weeks. I checked one eventually, and it said it had been sent in 1943. (The battery on his Mac was nearly flat).

Is this something like "traditional tuning" as mentioned on another thread? Mudcat time is traditional time...and doesn't need to be changed.

I cant believe it, Max wrote a message on a thread I started. Has anyone ever seen him? Is it true he sits on a floating thing like the Mekon?

well, he used to float--or soar a bit- when he had the brewery in his basement...*grin*...but mostly he sits on chairs like the rest of us...like at the Getaway

that is...L to R, yours truly, Max, Dick Greenhaus and Susan of DT..

as you can see, Max is only slightly amused by whatever others find hilareous...thus demonstrating that he IS, in fact, above it all....
