I'm looking for a song sung by Garrison Keillor on PHC shortly after the 9/11 events, possibly written by Tom Paxton, about rescuers in a stricken building. The chorus had lines to the effect: "They were going up as we were running down." Does anyone have this? Thanks. Andy Leader

Andy: The song is entitled "The Bravest", and it is indeed by Tom Paxton. It's about the firefighters who entered the World Trade Center towers in an attempt to rescue victims there. There's a thread about it here at Mudcat, and here's a link to it:

A few weeks ago, there was a news story to the effect that some firefighters had actually reached the floors in the South Tower on which the jet had crashed, just before the building collapsed. Can't find the article right now among the thousands about the WTC, though. Sorry; I'll try again later.
