Subject: Synchronicity From: C-flat Date: 12 Sep 02 - 01:04 PM There seems to be a lot of interest in this subject lately. Here's something I heard about on BBC Radio 4 today; Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. · John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. · Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. · John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. · The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. · Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. · Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. · Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. · Both were shot in the head. · Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. · Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln. · Both were assassinated by Southerners. · Both were succeeded by Southerners. · Both successors were named Johnson. · Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. · Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. · John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln was born in 1839. · Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy was born in 1939. · Both assassins were known by their three names. · Both names are made of fifteen letters. · Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. · Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater. · Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. · And last but not least, · Before Lincoln was shot he was in Monroe, Maryland. · Before Kennedy was shot he was in Marilyn Monroe. Whilst I'm sure that if you take two unconnected individuals and look for similarities/coincidences in their lives it would be possible to come up with something, this seems quite remarkable. Do any Mudcatters have their own unusual stories or other examples of bizzare synchronicities? |

Subject: RE: BS: Synchronicity From: Amos Date: 12 Sep 02 - 01:19 PM Well the NEw York State Lotto has a three-number game that happened to come up yesterday with 9, 1, 1 as the chosen numbers. Synchronicity is not exactly the same as coincidence, though. It is more about apparently random collisons in time of events which have subjective meaning. I don't see any meaning in the pattern you describe (Lincoln/Kennedy) unless it is that the Joker got loose from the pages of Batman and has been hacking the Akashic records. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Synchronicity From: C-flat Date: 12 Sep 02 - 02:46 PM Well I might have guessed that it would turn out to be a load of nonsense but there have been other examples offered up recently and whilst each of those coincidences can be factored individually, as a whole, it's still odd. |
Subject: RE: BS: Synchronicity From: Kim C Date: 12 Sep 02 - 03:02 PM I recently had two calligraphy jobs addressing wedding invitations for two girls who do not know each other. They had one common invitee on their address lists. Both invitations were on ivory paper. I can see this person getting these two invitations, for weddings on the SAME DAY, saying, Man, but these look almost exactly alike... |
