For those of you who used to enjoy Whitchurch Festival in Hampshire, I'm sure you will be sorry to hear that Rip Rippingale, who was the driving force behind the festival, has died, suddenly and unexpectedly. No more details at present.

Oh No.
He was looking a lot better this summer and playing with the Old Trout Band. I knew he had been ill but he felt that he was on the road to recovery.
I am totally gutted by this news.
Mary

I knew Rip from many years ago when he was still living in Rainham, Essex. I went to several of the Whitchurch Song and Ale events and have bumped into him at various events over the years.

The folk scene has lost another of it's colourful characters - I'm very sorry to hear of his death.

I'm sorry to hear this. I knew Rip well from the old Whitchurch festival days. Agree with Dave, 'the folk scene has lost another of his colourful characters'. Anyone remember when he sang on TV dressed in his railway guards uniform? My condolences to his family. Burl.
