Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: GUEST Date: 19 Sep 02 - 07:52 PM Not entirely sure what you mean, (chord shapes or songs that are chorded), but a visit to mandolincafe.com would probably prove fruitful |
Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: michaelr Date: 19 Sep 02 - 07:57 PM This page has a bunch of useful (and not so useful, for a beginner) links. Then there's The Mandolin Cafe where you should find everything you need to know. Happy plinking! Michael |
Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: Áine Date: 19 Sep 02 - 08:23 PM Hey Dutton! Welcome to the Mudcat (and to the world of the Mudcat Mando-idiots (grin)) Here are some websites that I've found helpful, since I'm a beginner at the mandolin, too: Scottish Mandolin lessons (has some chords and some very good beginner info) Mandolin Chords (some interesting chord shapes here) Miscellaneous Bluegrass Mandolin licks mandolinist.com (fancy graphics, but has some chord charts as well) Simple Gifts Mandolin Tablature Archive (has several good traditional tunes in well plotted tab) However, I agree with michaelr that The Mandolin Cafe is the best place to start out on your search for mando info. Enjoy clicking! All the best, Áine |

As usual, you guys exceded my expectations in scope and in your spirit of support and community. Thank you for making me look smart. |

Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: Cluin Date: 18 Feb 04 - 04:53 PM Okay, catch! Here's a D chord (2002).... hear it?.... And here's a G (0023).... and this is another G (7523). That's a good one for bluegrass chops `cause all the strings are stopped. Here's a different G (0053). It's actually a G5 chord, because there's no B note, just G s and Ds. It's good for rock and alt type stuff. And here's a D 5th (2005) to go with it. Here's a C (0230). And slide this finger backwards to play a C minor (0130). Nice, eh? An A minor (5200) now. Slide this finger up one fret for the A major (6200). Or barre these two low strings here at the second fret for a nice A 5th (2200) chord. Lots more out there. |
Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: GUEST,gato Date: 18 Feb 04 - 07:26 PM is there a way to tune a mandoline across the frets, as with a guitar on the 5th fret? |
Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: GUEST Date: 18 Feb 04 - 07:35 PM I've just got back from a gig let me think about it and i'm pissed I don't know why I'm on here anyway.............. |
Subject: RE: Can someone send me some mandolin chords From: marthabees Date: 18 Feb 04 - 08:37 PM Question was: is there a way to tune a mandoline across the frets, as with a guitar on the 5th fret? Yes - just use the 7th fret. And I'd like to say welcome to the mando world. The resources listed previously have kept me going since last summer. I am now pretty close to an intermediate player (recently graduated myself from advanced beginner -woo hoo!) and all I've had for lessons came from the internet and questions that I've asked other players. No formal lessons. I'm still learning every day. I've decided that I can learn something every day on this instrument and never get to the end of it. Such a lovely little box of strings........
