The music world is agog with indifference with news that today sees the release of Cara's new album "Asleep behind the Settee". Inspired by a huge gas bill, the official blurb from Cara's Management Company – the obscure, negligent and secretive Gamblemusic (branches throughout Barrow) drivels on:

"Cara is a group of musicians from North Lincolnshire UK, specializing in a spirited and contemplative blend of traditional and original Celtic music. Cara has performed together over the last two years, building a growing reputation for a sound that is distinctive, sensitive and evocative.

Cara's original material, though profoundly personal, is accessible. Its traditional material is respectful of both the origin and purpose of the music without being overly reverential. Cara embraces the tradition's natural tendency to evolve musically and the clarity of the instrumental voices and restrained arrangements combine with powerful, thought-provoking lyrics to produce the distinctive "Cara" experience.

The band has three members, John Rawlings on guitar, Oakley on violin and mandolin and Mike Ryan on guitar, whistles, mandolin, uilleann pipes and vocals. Each brings something very different to the music Cara performs, coming from a mixture of Irish traditional, rock, jazz and classical music backgrounds.

Cara's new release - Asleep behind the Settee - is the culmination of a year of writing, arranging and performing. Fourteen tracks; in all, just under an hour of instrumental music and songs containing a number of sympathetically arranged traditional tunes and eight original compositions written by Mike Ryan and Oakley.

Asleep Behind the Settee is a faithful reproduction of Cara's sound in live performance. The sequence of tracks suggests a progression of musical ideas - a narrative that is an important and engaging element of Cara, in performance.

Cara's is a profoundly personal and beautiful take on ancient themes."

Unsurprisingly, this album is not available in the shops, but can be obtained by e - mail to [e-mail]. or, by asking the normally shy and retiring small hairy farmer if you see him in the flesh. The cost is an abitious £12.00 plus £1 p + p. Shipping costs to Twillingsgate have yet to be agreed.

Where else could one hear the concelebrant recite the Careen Creed, only to have the congregation riposte with utility trivia?

I must endorse this splendid creation, as I am its vital spark. Without my sublime influences, this CD would be tired old covers of 'Wonderful Tonight' and 'D Day Dodgers'. So I hope you're grateful, world.

I have received an instruction from Cara's management company - Gamblemusic, to publicly apologise on this forum for the opening remarks in my post. It was an error of judgement that I regret.

I also regret causing offence to all Cara's stable-mates who thrive under the care of Gamblemusic. I withdraw my remarks and extend my apology unreservedly to the following acts:

Phil and Porky the Radioactive Pig, Peterson Leigh - Top P&L tribute act, Love-on-a-Stick - 70s Husband and Wife Duo, Les and the Picadors - 60s with a difference and The Gainsborough Puppet Theatre Company (in receivership).

I am asked to pint out that Gamblemusic has been instrumental in managing the reputations and standing of these acts at the highest level of the UK entertainment industry.

I am happy to make this apology9.
