Subject: Stormy Monday Blues

Hi all.

I'm not sure about the viability of this request, but I figured I'd do it here...

I'm putting together a 'walk-in' CD for a band, for when the audience is milling about. They want to have, basically, as many different versions of 'Stormy Monday Blues' that can fit on a 70 minute disc.

I've pulled about six out of my own collection, and am aware of maybe 25 more, I'm sure there are even more I am unaware of.

I would like, if possible, and/or with willing help, to have people send me .aif files of versions you may have that I do not, so I can compile this disk. While I'm certainly interested in straight-up blues versions, less traditional recordings are also welcome.

Thanks

ADDENDUM:

Well, on a quick glance, I've realized that .aif files tend to be 20-30 meg+. Way too big for most email.

I do not have the software available to render, play or recode mp3, so this may have to be something I need to collect via postal mail.

Your thoughts are welcome.

As I read through your list, I was beginning to think you would never get to T-Bone Walker, the composer of “Stormy Monday.” Many of the people listed have probably recorded the tune multiple times, I know T-Bone did. In T-Bone's recordings of the tune, the later versions feature less of his brilliant guitar style.

I know Booker T. & the MGs released a version on their “Melting Pot” album (Stax 2035).

You can add Little Milton to your list.

STORMY MONDAY BLUES
B. Eckstine – B. Crowder – E. Hines
As recorded by Earl Hines and his Orchestra, with vocal by Billy Eckstine,
on Bluebird B-11567-A, 1942-03-19.

It's gone and started rainin'; I'm lonesome as a man can be. (2x)
'Cause ev'ry time it rains, I realize what you mean to me.

If you read my letters, baby, you sure must have read my mind. (2x)
Then you wouldn't have left me to sit alone and pine.

Subject: Lyr Add: CALL IT STORMY MONDAY (BUT TUESDAY IS...)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 13 Dec 14 - 01:39 AM

CALL IT STORMY MONDAY (BUT TUESDAY IS JUST AS BAD)
Written by T-Bone Walker
As recorded by T-Bone Walker on Capitol 70014, also Black & White 122B, 1947-09-13.

They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday's just as bad. (2x)
Wednesday's worse, and Thursday's also sad.

Yes, the eagle flies on Friday, and Saturday I go out to play.
Eagle flies on Friday, and Saturday I go out to play.
Sunday I go to church, then I kneel down and pray.

Lord, have mercy; Lord, have mercy on me.
Lord, have mercy; my heart's in misery.
Crazy 'bout my baby; yeah, send her back to me.

This song is often confused with the previous one. It has even been recorded under the titles STORMY MONDAY and STORMY MONDAY BLUES. See the Wikipedia article:
