The death from Lou Gehrig's Disease of bass player Jimmy Stoneman has been announced. Age 65 he died in a nursing home in Tennessee. With his sister he was a member of the Stoneman Family which was founded by Pop and Hattie Stoneman in the 1920s in Virginia. Jimmy and his sister were regulars at many folk festivals in the USA.

One heck of a bass player I might add. I saw him at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto back in the sixties. Thanks Fiolar.

Rick

His sister, Patsy Stoneman, is (I think) the only surviving member of that generation of Stonemans. She lives in McMinnville, Tennessee. My impression is that it is very hard on her to see all of her family die and to see the family musical legacy disappear. She could use a note or two. WSM Radio in Nashville, Tennessee can get them to her.
