Subject: Peter Sarstead bio and lyrics
From: Fossil

Long time ago now (circa 1968 I believe), Peter Sarstead had a hit with "Where do you go to my lovely?", still heard in folk circles every now and then.

Can anyone provide (or direct me to a site which would provide) a bio. of Peter, and/or the lyrics of the song? Google seems to be of very little use on this and it doesn't seem to be in the database here, either.

Try here, and also look for Sarstedt. I found him spelled both ways.

I reckon Frozen Orange Juice is one of the classic songs from the sixties.

Damn! For some reason my link is adding an extra mudcat.org - I didn't do it. Honest! Try cutting and pasting www.petersarstedt.com instead.

Funnily enough, Sandra, I used the 'make a link' facility and cut and paste. The URL was pasted in as "http://www.petersarstedt.com/" and the text as "official site"

Like this (which noe seems OK!)

I guess I shouldn't trust free utilities:-)

Thanks anyway - I will double check the generated code in future!

Dave

Alinact, I hated "Frozen Orange Juice" and considered it to be a stupid follow up to " Where Do Go..."; infact, I think it killed his career as 45 single artist.

Wouldn't it be boring if it wasn't, Sandra:-)

Slight variations to the lyrics can be fun on this song btw -

But I know you still bare the scars
(on your back and on your legs)

But you never get your lips wet
(no you don't, you use a straw)

:D

Hmmm... was this Fred Wedlock? I first heard it done by Bob Williamson (mid '70s).

You walk like 'Enery Cooper
You dance like his brother Fred
You've got measles and mixomytosis
That's why you're alone in your bed...

And where do you go to, my ugly (etc.)

Peter Sarstead's brother? Wasn't it Robin? Had a hit with something - "My Resistance is Low" comes to mind.

Anyway, I remember much discussion at the time about the deeper meaning of the song "Where do .....My Lovely", who it was about etc. Remember asking him in the 80's and aparantly it was one of those instant songs which took all of ten minutes to write.

Now didn't Les Barker write a parody as well?

Ray

Peter should write a sequel to "Where do you go...". I'd like to know what became of the lady in question. She must be 60+ now. Did she ever marry a millionaire? Peter, please let us know!

I think what put a damper on his 45 single career was his 1968 follow-up "Take off your clothes". The BBC refused to play it - today you wonder why. It was one of my favourite party tracks - usually about 2 am on New Year's Day.

Phil
