Actually, banjo builing nowadays is pretty simple (if you can afford the pre-fabbed parts.) I vividly remember riding on a NYC subway on the way to a gig whittling the neck of the banjo I was going to play (started life as a bedpost)

Depends on whether you want a piece of wood to carve your own or a pre-made neck---and even the premade necks can be purchased at different levals of work already done--the fitting of the neck heel to the rim I would think to be the most difficult. Try First Quality Musical instruments-- they used to offer banjo neck wood or partially manufactured necks.

From time to time you will find necks on eBay. There have been some factory seconds, some Gibsons, some from Luthiers. Search Banjo Neck.

Go to Google and type banjo necks into the search engine. You'll be surprised where it goes.
