Subject: Lyr Req: Boer war song Kimberly diamond mine From: GUEST,Tom Murphy Date: 04 Oct 02 - 03:08 PM My grandfather sang a song to me in the late 60's about the Kimberly Diamond mines he had passed by during the Boer War. Does anyone know anything else about the song and the remaining lyrics?
I've just returned from Kimberly, the place where diamonds grow, Thanks in advance. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Boer war song Kimberly diamond mine From: Bill Hahn//\\ Date: 23 Nov 04 - 07:58 PM Probably not the song you are seeking. There is a song by Marais/Miranda---Train to Kimberley. Not about diamonds as I recall, merely about the place and the train. Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Boer war song Kimberly diamond mine From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Nov 04 - 06:32 PM The name in the song is probably Barney Barnato. Click the link to see an article in which he is mentioned. From there you can follow the links to more information about the Kimberley area and the diamond mines. I didn't see anything there about a song, however. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Diamond King (Scott/Mills, 1895) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Mar 12 - 01:07 AM Bodleian Library Broadside Ballads: The allegro Catalogue of Ballads I searched the music broadsides in several ways (author, performer, subject, keywords, etc.) and don't find mention. But sheet music could end up in so many different types of collections. B.I. Barnato, a memoir (1897) is a Google book online. Scanned at the NY Public Library and looks downloadable. SRS |

Location: Bodleian Library call number: Mus. 5c c.19 (158) Type: Music/closed stack Barcode: N13726468 Item type: score Request Options: Sign in to view request options I saved a citation for it to the Mudcat facebook page. I have a screen capture I'll see if I can upload that for you, the details portion of the record. You should be able to see it here This isn't a full-text citation, this is what you need when you walk in the door to ask someone to go get it for you or take you to look at it. Or perhaps an accommodating library exchange program will get a copy of it through Interlibrary Loan?
