I believe there are programs that will slow an audio file, while maintaining pitch, with which one can pick out leads and details.... any experience?
Lane

The only thing I know about is some machine I've seen advertised in guitar/music mags.

No, I have it, it's called Pacemaker. I just can't recall where the heck I got the free download. You can speed and slow things without affecting pitch, as well as change pitch. It's been very helpful in transcribing lyrics that are muddy and fast. The resulting sound quality varies, but as a tool it can be used well.

The Windows version of the Digital Tradition does that quite nicely with our tunes.

Right, Joe & Nutty, for MIDI's. Pacemaker slows MP3s.

WYSIWYG,

Will it also do it with CD's that you have downloaded to Real Player?

Steve

Dunno, try it out and let us know. A lot of stuff will not work with RP cuz RP doesn't want it to. I like to take RP stuff and put it in MP3, then I can do what I want with it.

The Amazing Slowdowner from RoniMusic in Sweden is the program you need. It works on MP3s, WAVs, CD tracks. You can slow down whole tracks or just short bits, and the amount of slowing is infinitely variable, with the quality of the sound being good even when slowed down a lot. You can also change the pitch, if the recording isn't in tune with your instrument.

Find it here, and try out a demo version for free - it lets you use the first track of a CD. The password to turn it into a full function program costs (I think) £20.

The company is nothing to do with me - I'm a very satisfied customer trying to learn fiddle tunes.

Cheers
Ray

I use CoolEdit.

I've used it a few times on songs and it works great.

If you can find a cracked version online, more power to ya. I do believe the shareware version can do it also.

BanjoRay.. the link you gave has been typed incorrectly. It should be
Slowdowner from RoniMusic. Perhaps a Joeclone can correct it then delete my posting?

p.s. I must remember these new automatic line breaks!

Susan - You say that you put Real Player stuff into MP3 then work with that format. Do you have a method of converting directly from RP to MP3 - i.e. direct software conversion, or do we need to re-record manually?
I am wanting to convert tracks I have downloaded from the Honking Duck website into a more portable playing format, and have been wondering how to do so! So far I have found software which will convert files into Real Player format, but do not appear to be able to extract them to MP3,WAV or whatever.
Any useful advice would be welcomed!
Quack!
