Does it or does it not work? I'm confused!   For 4 days I've tried to get in the chat room...but...there is never anyone there! I find this hard to believe! It seemed like such a good thing! When I log out...I can't get back to the cat without closing down and starting all over... Is it just me or am I taking this too personally!!

Yes...I tried it the first day and it was fun. Now I just tried it and it's empty, and when I tried to enter anyway, I got a message that says, "You can't enter the chat this way, please log into the chat." I know this is a bad time for lots of people (midnight+ Mudcat time), but I would have thought some of the cross-ponders or Downunders would have been awake.

Anybody?

Someone has started a thread with a title like :"Anyone around for a chat?" I looked at the chatroom around 11.30 last night (UK time) and no-one there - as you have found - Having added a message to the "Anyone around ?" thread, within *seconds* there were 3 of us there, and within a couple of minutes 8 people. Seems like that's a good way to get the chat started.

I think it's great !

the last time we had a chat room I made the suggestion that if anyone is around that they pop into the room "on the hour" and hang around for a few minutes.... then that way at least you have a chance of bumping into people.

the starting the thread idea is good too......... or perhaps there is a way of having a banner at the top of the threads (permanently) which says how many people are in there

if you go in..... loiter for a while... open the forum in another window and keep both open.... tha increases your chances of meeting up too

I use a lot of different browsers and the only one that can get into the room every time is mozilla 0.9.

The internet health of the network in North America has bluntly *sucked* the last few days. Some of the problems with the chat room may be due to that. I know every time I got kicked out yesterday there would be a spike in the % packet loss on the internet, with a subsequent increase in response times and drop of relayed traffic.

That it would work at all with packet loss reaching as high as 20% yesterday was a minor miracle.

I don't know what is causing it; just know that it is occurring. currently we're getting about 18% packet loss in North America as a whole (average)

Just as a comparision - on our wide area network (we cover 47 school districts) our WAN manager considers a tenth of a percent packet loss un-acceptable.

I visit often...no trouble getting in, but I've been bounced a few times. I think everyone else was at the same time. I've had several confusing conversations with six people at once, and a couple of nice, private, chats with congenial people. I EVEN MET MAX!! I could easily become adicted.

Well, I've been hanging out for about five minutes (in another window) -- and nobody's joined me yet. Where IS everyone?!?

Had a lovely but short conversation yesterday when I discovered the room for the first time -- but since then, every time I've shown up nobody's there but my own echoes.
