Subject: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 11 Oct 02 - 10:51 AM I just spotted the aution item <>Bronson: Child's balads Now, perhaps it is just my wierd sense of humour or perhaps I felt we needed a bit of cheering up after the sad news on Mudcat but my little mind went into overdrive... Just what would Charles Bronson have made of the ballads? Particularly the murder ones? Would we have sequels to all the more gory ones? I am sure someone can come up with suitable scenarios for the competant Mr B to put right! Wife and daughter raped/murdered/both, husband seeks revenge, takes the law into his own hand... Hmmmmm. Perhaps the filmakers were really folkies;-) Cheers Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: radriano Date: 11 Oct 02 - 11:14 AM I believe the Bronson book contains the traditional melodies for the Child ballads. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: Gypsy Date: 11 Oct 02 - 11:19 AM Gee, i kinda like Daves interpretation! And yeah, he would have done well re enacting some of the ballads..........howzabout the Cruel Mother? or the Twa Sisters? Or Corbies, for that matter.......snicker, snicker, snicker......... |

Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: allanwill Date: 11 Oct 02 - 06:00 PM No, I'm with you too, Dave. I've always thought some ballads (not necessarily Child) would make great movies. The one that I always wanted to see was Matty Groves. Allan |

Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: michaelr Date: 11 Oct 02 - 11:50 PM There was actually a film made about "Tam Lin", I believe, with music by Steeleye Span (?) It did not feature Charles Bronson, though... Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: Art Thieme Date: 12 Oct 02 - 09:59 AM There is a modern "version" of TAM LIN ---a movie---starring AVA GARDNER. Directed by Roddy McDowall. THE BLURB on the back of the video reads: Director Roddy McDowall's wickedly suspenseful tale of decadent young thrillseekers and the sinister seductress who holds them spellbound. But amid the dawn to dusk revelry at the fabulous country estate of wealth, sophisticated Mrs. Cazaret (Ava Gardner) the impulsive T"O"M LYNNN (Ian McShane) discovers that being the life of this party could have murderous consequences. The transformational scenes just might be the first use of psychodelic-type surreal film imagery. I enjoyed it. (The video is from Republic Pictures. VHS 5388) I found it for not very much money. Sent one to Anne Hills and Mark Moss who have named their daughter Tamlyn. Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: Art Thieme Date: 12 Oct 02 - 10:22 AM I sent a message to the auction by mistake instead of posting it here in this thread and made an $81,00 bid on this book that I had donated to Max for the auction. PLEASE, someone, either delete my bid or make an $82.00 bid to mske moot my bid perpetrated by stupid error. I sent this volume to Max hoping it might generate some cash for Mudcat. We were moving and I've already got plenty of text versions of the Child ballads to keep me reading for the rest of my life. (Also, I can't read music and figured it needed a better home that might use it's melodic resources better!! ;-) Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: BS: Bronson Ballads? From: toadfrog Date: 12 Oct 02 - 11:44 AM Art, do not worry your head about winning that auction. Somebody is going to bid more before it ends. Count on it. If someone is going to make a film of a Chld ballad, I vote for THE WHUMMIL BORE. |
