Folk Extravaganza time at the Open Door Folk Club again! Beginning at 1pm. on Saturday the 19th. of October and finishing late on Sunday the 20th. the October Extravaganza features:-

Saturday...Singaround at 1pm followed by Cathryn Craig and Brian Willoughby.
Singaround at 5pm. followed by Bill Caddick.
Singaround at 8pm. followed by Pete Coe.

Sunday.....Singaround at 2pm. followed by Jane and Amanda Threlfall.*
Singaround at 5pm followed by Roam.
Singaround at 8pm. followed by Martin Carthy.

The club is situated at the Bull's Head, Oldham Road, Failsworth, Manchester. Contact Pauline Westall at 0161 681 3618 for ticket information.

Tickets cost £22 for the weekend or £12 and £14 for the Saturday and Sunday respectively. ( Come on..for a weekend ticket that's less than £4 per artist).

The Open Door is only subsidised by hardcore regulars turning up and buying their raffle tickets every week and the policy of the club is to put on festival-worthy artists in a good old folk club setting. Tickets may be available for individual performances...best to check with Pauline.

* Jane and Amanda Threlfall are replacing the late Buz Collins.

Looking forward to seeing you there.....

All the best..............Harry.

Hope you all have an excellent weekend. Unfortunately we've got a session on in Saddleworth all day Saturday to bid farewell to the excellent Tory Club stewards - one of our festival venues. Hopefully we'll see you on Sunday.
Ali

Great day indeed...and today promises to be exceptional with Jane and Amanda Threlfall, Roam and Martin Carthy. Tickets still available which I find rather surprising...do yourselves and us a favour and try and get along there...
There's a no smoking policy but you can always pop into the pub proper if desperation kicks in.

I wasn't able to get there.

Would anyone who was, tell me what Martin Carthy is like solo these days? What did he play?

In the past few years, I've only ever seen him with Norma or Liza (or both)

Ed

Hi, Ed...

Sorry you couldn't make it.....Martin was in fine form and stayed around for quite a while afterwards...

Can't remember everything he did but there were fine versions pf Henry Martin, Devil and the Feathery Wife and he even did Sovay for my wife although it;s a song he hasn't performed solo for a long time. Oh yes..there was Barbara Allan and Seven Yellow Gypsies and some fine morris tunes...it's all a bit of a whirl really...

He seemed to enjoy himself...he was friendly and forthcoming...no complaints. You would've enjoyed it Ed!

       All the best..........Harry.
