As noted in the Peas an' Rice... lyric request thread, "L.Charles" is but one of the many pen names of Bahamian composer Charles Leonard Lofthouse. Gilbert and Lofthouse partnered on several other well-known Bahamian "goombay" songs (Bahama Mama, Delia Gone &c.)

According to several libraries that have the sheet music, the correct title is MAMA DON'T WANT NO PEAS AND RICE AN' COCOANUT OIL, by L. Wolfe Gilbert and L. Charles (New York: Edward B. Marks, ©1932).

The title varies somewhat on recordings, however.

brandy handy was on an album recorded by burl ives in the middle 60s, i could get the name of the album if anyone wants it. it also has long black veil, and mocking bird hill,delia,and little bitty tear..just found it, "the versatile burl ives".handy dandy was writen by,L Wolfe Gilbert and L Charles

I have been looking for the words and guitar music for this song. My uncle used to sing it. From what I remember:

Facinating. So close to the song my mom used to sing to me, but different. Ours went:

sorcha, that's brilliant! far better than i ever imagined. some in my family have been singing a version of this for years- but your one's much better- like a different song- but i guess its really the same one misemembered by my kinfolk.

i'll learn this one- it could be my next big hit!
