Subject: Lyr Add: FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS (L Sarony) From: GUEST,999 Date: 10 Dec 09 - 03:49 AM FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS^^ by Leslie Sarony Somebody's born every minute Each moment there's somebody dies Each tick of the clock someone's kicked in the pants And clicks for a nasty surprise. Some say that our troubles are nothing but bubbles But Oh!... what a mess when they burst If it's true, as they say, every dog has it's day Then mine must be April the first. I've got and old aunt who's been fond of me For years and years and years I know she's been saving her £. s. d. For years and years and years She's nearly 100 there isn't a doubt One foot in the grave but dear Doctor Prout Says, the other will still go on wagging about For years and years and years. I haven't set eyes on my Uncle Ted For years and years and years He used to make very good money, they said For years and years and years He did make good money, that I must allow One day the police got to hear it somehow And we shan't see him round at the good ol' 'Dun Cow' For years and years and years. Old Gramp was so fat that it damaged his health For years and years and years His doctor advised him to diet himself For years and years and years He started till he had to have tucks in his clothes He shouted one night as he noticed his toes "Well lummy! I haven't set eyes on those For years and years and years." A nice folding bed we had hidden away For years and years and years To put up our friends when they wanted to stay For years and years and years But sorry to say, like the old mistletoe bough Something went wrong with the spring somehow And my mother-in-law has been shut in it now For years and years and years. from a google of For Years and Years and Years... Leslie Sarony Acxtually found it by Googling "a nice folding bed we had hidden away" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: years and years and years From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 10 Dec 09 - 04:08 AM Fascinating! Many thanks. Charlie Jose of Boscastle in Cornwall used to sing this, but not the first verse. 'The Mistletoe Bough' is a gruesome and sentimental parlour song about a bride playing hide and seek on her wedding night and getting trapped in an old oak chest, not being found until many years later; hence the reference in the verse about the folding bed.
