Subject: Lyr Add: NO LOVE TODAY (Chris Smither) From: katlaughing Date: 19 Oct 02 - 06:36 PM NO LOVE TODAY by Chris Smither I don't know much, when I knew less, And I was heartbroke for the first time, I was drowning in my tears, I went looking for a lifeline, Trying to find some comfort, A simple tender touch, Searching for some little cure That would not cost too much, And I could hear that produce wagon on the street, I could hear that farmer singing, As I cried myself to sleep CHORUS I got ba-na-na, watermelon, peaches by the pound, Sweet corn, mirleton, mo' better than in town, I got okra, enough to choke ya, Beans of every kind, If hungry is what's eatin' you I'll sell you peace of mind, But this ain't what you came to hear me say, And I hate to disappoint you, But I got no love today, I got no love today, I got no love today, No love today I could not love to save myself From lonesome desperation. Everything I thought was love Was worthless imitation. My concept of commitment Was to take all you could give, I thought the cheapest thrills I loved Were teachin' me to live, But nothin' seemed to last or see me through Nothin' but that little song That I still sing for you. CHORUS No love today, none tomorrow, Not now, not forever. You can't see what comes for free, I think you much too clever, For your own good I will tell you What's right before your eyes, Intelligence is no defense Against what this implies, In the end no one will sell you what you need, You can't buy it off the shelf, You got to grow it from the seed, CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Help me find this song From: GUEST Date: 19 Oct 02 - 05:58 PM I'm sorry that's not it...I think it's sort of a man scorned love song. He talks about all the vegtables he has but how he has no love and won't have any love for this girl. Thanks anyway! |
Subject: Lyr Add: ODE TO A SPUD (M E 'Bunny' Eastveld) From: Tiger Date: 19 Oct 02 - 05:52 PM ODE TO A SPUD by M.E. (Bunny) Eastveld copyright 09-25-2001 When I was a little girl, my mother said to me: "Eat all your veggies, little Bunny, and you'll grow up big and strong like me!" My first memory of veggies, (Not fond, of course), was of orange colored squash, followed closely by zucchini, and for variety spinach! "I don't like them, mom!" I cried. To which she looked at me, shrugged shoulders and sighed: "At least I tried". As I grew older, (and grew teeth with which to chew). Mom continued to introduce me to more veggies than I knew grew! There were turnips (great with roast and gravy), Carrots, which I love to crunch (especially the variety "baby"). Beans of every type and color I can eat (except the lima), and tomatoes, lettuce, corn and beets, to me are just-afina! Cabbage, peas, cucumber and garlic, all belong on my "okay to eat" list, While swiss chard, eggplant, parsnips and okra stay on the proscribed veggie list, "Not to eat, not even if necessary to exist" Yams I haven't figured out as yet, I hear there's multi ways to prepare them. It's hard for me to swallow, though as they're some kind of squash (and I don't eat THEM). But my favorite vegetable by far, the one I eat most often, is the spud, the prince of veggies cooked perfectly 'til they soften. Whipped with dill or parsley, and butter, milk and cream cheese, or fried, roasted, baked or scalloped, Potatoes never fail to please. And so, I must conclude this little ditty, Some pro-tofu group is threatening to eat my kitty! |
Subject: Help me find this song From: GUEST Date: 19 Oct 02 - 05:45 PM I was turning the dial on the radio and heard a song on a folk program but didn't get the title or artist. The guy was singing about having all types of vegtables such as "peaches", "enough okra to choka 'ya" and " beans of every type " but " no love today '. This sound familiar to anyone? Please help... |
