International Accordion Festival San Antonio Texas began today, it runs till tomorrow evening.

Featuring some of the best box players in the Americas as well as international excellence, Russian, Basque and Irish among others.

Names I recognized, Mary Rafferty- ex Cherish the Ladies - Steve Reily and his mammou boys - Flaco Jaminez - Eva Ybarro.

Suprising music to my ears - Basque very very nice, much recommended Josquin Diaz, Dominica, everything plus some. Top dog? Uttery amazing command of the 3 row button box!

Second surprise the Zydeco box player was the best I ever heard playing Cajun ! - Besides the usual bluesy licks for the Zydeco songs the band played great variety of other stuff.
Amazingly they were brought in to replace the Colombian band which could not make it.

Festival ends tomorrow evening. I expect to hear some Tango as well as a star of Tejano - Senor Jaminez.
