I grew up with 4 brothers and I can't believe I've forgotten the words to this.....all I remember is "if you're sliding into first and you feel that great big burst...diarrhea, diarrhea"

I'll have to do some memory-dredging for this one, haven't sung it since 6 years ago at summer camp. Only one that comes immediately to mind is:

"When you're driving in a Chevy and you're feeling something heavy... diarrhea, diarrhea.."

Amazing what the mind doesnt throw out

Diarrhea

Chrs: Diarrhea, 'thbt' 'thbt' Diarrhea, "thbt" "thbt"

Riding down the sewer On a piece of Horse maneur

chrs:

Some people think its funny But its really rot and runny

chrs:

Floating down the gutter On a piece of bread and butter

chrs:

Run to get the mail And you find you've got a pail of...

You can pretty well make up the verses as you go along the last one is by me (so purists can exclude it from the folk process :) )

cheers,

Bo

Dare I ask.......but......
Is there SHEEEET music for this song?
Or was the music sheet put to more urgent use?
Will one need a CRAPPO on one's guitar while playing along?

Or do these puns give you the RUNS?

Frank

Her are a few more lines to DIARRHEA that you might have missed out on.

When your slinding into third and you feel a runny turd

When your sliding into home and your jocks are full of foam

There is a couple more for you, hope i could help.

just wanted to say thanks, I've been wanting those lyrics too. Another place you might look for the lyrics is in the movie 'Parenthood' with Steve Martin. That's where I first heard it. God bless the Diarrhea song!

Frank, you don't need a CRAPPO, just drop your G-string to C. Actually, any SLACK key will do, just so long as you play ALLEGRO. Oh well, enough for now, I gotta run.

ENEMA wildest imagination, I couldn't have predicted this thread arising from the BOWELS of obscurity. Frank, if you're gonna sing this and not use the CRAPPO, perhaps you better stand. Sitting on a STOOL could get pretty uncomfortable. It should start out SOFTLY but by the third or fourth MOVEMENT it should be moderately loud (MESSI FARTE) with increasing SCENTS of urgency. Your instrument will of course be UNPLUGGED. Controlling your WIND is important, you need to hold it so you don't sound FLATulant. A harmonica interlude would be a nice touch, but be certain to only inhale, you don't want to BLOW OUT in front of an audience .

Remember it is better to bury your HEAD in the sand as an ostrich than to DIE A RHEA.

I know I am going to be sorry I wrote this

from Webster's online:

Main Entry: di·ar·rhea Pronunciation: "dI-&-'rE-& Function: noun Etymology: Middle English diaria, from Late Latin diarrhoea, from Greek diarrhoia, from diarrhein to flow through, from dia- + rhein to flow -- more at STREAM Date: 14th century 1 : abnormally frequent intestinal evacuations with more or less fluid stools 2 : excessive flow - di·ar·rhe·ic /-'rE-ik/ adjective - di·ar·rhe·al /-'rE-&l/ adjective - di·ar·rhet·ic /-'re-tik/ adjective

-perhaps it is an English cultural oddity to retain the Latin spelling...*wink*

I think most of the english speaking world tends toward the cultural oddity of Diarrhoea, as well as the cultural oddity of recognizinf that many english words do have a latin base. Just a thought.

well, durn!! You can't even trust Webster anymore? I have seen Kaopectate commercials for 40 years, and I had never seen the 'Diarrhoea' spelling till this week! I guess we colonials have really lost touch with the 'Mother Tongue' over here. (perhaps our Australian friends can enlighten us as to how they spell it, and we can have a vote!! Wowee, gang...the excitement builds as the debate over this crucial issue builds)

Uh....what do you mean, you don't GIVE a s***?

ok..avoiding any attempt at humor, I simply have not seen the spelling you assert is preferred by the majority of the English speaking world, and Webster gives the spelling in the thread title as the standard one. And I HAVE seen it spelled DIARRHEA in national commercials...and in magazines...*shrug*...not a big deal..I just can't resist a discussion on language, spelling and usage...(and the spelling you prefer strikes me as the sort of letter combination that the English would use, given other spelling preferences I have seen..)

I refer you to sources.. the latest edition of of the Oed. Also, it may not be common usage in the Us. But it is fairly common elsewhere. So citing "national" commercials may simply prove My point. All I am saying is that a an English speaking country other than the one in which you reside, your spelling is not common. I also can"t resist the observation the use of English by "the English" can hardly be regarded as an oddity just because Americans don't use it.

Well, Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary (published in Edinburgh and my standard reference for clear and current British Isles English, as well as elegent definitions) gives both "diarrhea" and "diarrhoea" as alternative spellings, without indicating a preference for either.

The OED, while giving "diarrhoea" as the primary spelling, also offers both "diaria" and "diarrhea" as alternatives. Indeed, the first usage examples that the OED provides are of "diaria" (in 1495) and "diarrhea" (in 1544). Only in the 1564 example does "diarrhoea" show up.

To be clear, though, the Latin root is indeed "diarrhoea" and the prior Greek root is similar. But the British started screwing up Latin and Greek long before colonial times. Probably has something to do with the degredation and declining academic standards of the schools in the 15th century.

Subject: 'Diarrhea, Diarrhea' song
From: John M.
Date: 24 Sep 04 - 04:56 AM

Hello everyone,

I was watching "Parenthood" last night and was surprised by a little ditty sung by one of the children: "The Diarrhea Song".   With a little Google searching, I confirmed that this song is a traditional children's song.

If you know the "Diarrhea Song", when did you learn your verses? If possible, would you mind singing them for me and any other children's rhymes that you can remember?   You can reach me at mudcat4.20.jpm21@neverbox.com or you can PM me.

Any help will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

John Mehlberg

and you feel somethin' burst
Diarrhea, Diarrhea

When you're slidin' into two
And your pants are filled with goo
Diarrhea, Diarrhea

When you're slindin' into 3rd
And you feel a big turd
Diarrhea, Diarrhea

When you're slidin' into home
And your pants are filled with foam
Diarrhea, Diarrhea

Dear Joe Offer,

The quality of the responses to the previous thread were the reason I started a new one.   The way things are now with the new thread tacked onto the old one, very few people are going to read, let alone take seriously, my post.

I am seeking the TUNE to the Diarrhea...Diarrhea song. I am also seeking knowledge of WHEN people learned this song.

Please, DO NOT POST TO THIS THREAD unless you telling me you know the tune and would like to help me by telling me when you learned the song.

The Giok version, to the the tune of Maria from West Side Story.

Diarrhoea, I just kissed a girl with diarhoea
And suddenly that name will never be the same to me
Diarrhoea, say it loud and your friends go rushing
Say it soft, you can hear cisterns flushing
Diarrhoea, will I never stop going diarrhoea
All the beautiful sounds of the earth in a single
PHHHHAARRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Diarrhoeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Go on sing it; you won't catch anything.

Giok

John, I don't know the tune for sure, but reading the words makes me suspect that it goes to "That's Amore". The structure is right; and kid's songs are often rip-offs of contemporary 'serious songs'.

Oh and i was enjoying the discussion about the word too. Anyway seeing i'm 16 hours ahead of you guys perhaps i can get away with it. In my oxford dictionary from 1958 it is spelt diarrhoea and says it comes originally from the greek dia(rrhoia f. rheo flow)
And wasn't it once considered the most beatiful word in the English language?
If you ever need to experience it go to my local cafe 'Cezannes' The coffee there is sure to give it to you.
Cheers,
matai

I don't believe there ws a contibutor to this thread called SKEETA!!!Was the name invented for this thread?
Apart from this song, I would recommend "The Hanky song" by Davie Robertson, which includes verses about being afflicted with the skitters(skeeters)and what use you might put your hanky to!

I only heard a fragment from the movie Parenthood because I was writing out an email when that part of the movie was on TV. Yes, I could make up my own tune or guess at the tune but that is of no help in telling me what "traditionally" has been used for this amongst children.

Perhaps there are two or three different tunes used. How can we know unless I get recordings of people who have learned from "tradition"? If you do know this Diarrhea Song, would you at least post when you learned your version? This will help me date the song.

If you would like, you can give me a call weekdays from 11am to 6pm central time at 314.647.3883 and I can record your version of the song over the phone.

Any help will be appreciated.

John Mehlberg

The late Victor Borge used to do a one-man opera spoof, providing both narration and singing. He called the soprano's death song the "die aria."

Found on the net, and forwarded by a friend, no attribution,
to the famous ABBA tune...

               Diarrhoea

My my - I cannot contain myself.
Diarrhoea - does it show again?
My my I could not contain myself.

Ohhh, I think I just farted,
The contents of my bowels departed.
My my - I could not contain myself.
Diarrhoea - had to let it go,
My my - I just had to let it flow.

I had curry for dinner late last night.
Then I went off to bed and turned out the light.
But then that pain, in my bowels returned.
I went insane; made a dash for the toilet bowl...
Plonked my arse over the hole.

I let rip, with something I'd never seen.
It was putrid and it looked slightly green.
Whooooaaaa

(Chorus)
Diarrhoea - here I go again,
My my - I cannot contain myself.
Diarrhoea - does it show again?
My my I could not contain myself.

Don't worry, I know where the door is...
