I've also heard it done with "Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat" (a THIRD song) blended in...

And do bear in mind that PP&M grafted two completely separate songs together, which a lot of people (including Lothlorien, it seems) now believe to be a single song. We discussed all that in greater detail in an earlier thread, but to summarise: The Souling Song is from Cheshire U.K. (used to be known in Staffordshire as well) while Hi Ho Anyone at Home is a round, which most people seem to have learned in the Scouts or similar youth organisations; sometimes thought to be Canadian originally, but I don't know if that's right or not.

You may also find it useful to search for Souling Song and Soul Cake; I should think that it's been recorded a good bit under those titles and similar. I don't know why PP&M chose to spell it in such an odd way.

Hi all,

I'm looking for alternative recordings of "A-Soalin'" (recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary), the one that has this chorus:

Soul cake, soul cake, soul cake,
Please, good missus, a soul cake,
An apple, a pear, a plum, a cherry,
Any good thing to make us all merry,
One for Peter, two for Paul,
Three for him that made us all.

I found one at mp3.com once, but stupid me, I forgot the artist's name. Maybe someone can help? Thanks!!!

Nathali

P. S. Oops, I meant "alternative"...
