To my SS on the other side of the pond,

I want you to know that I will appreciate whatever you choose - the more you like it, and the more that it says about you, the better. The hint about purple is aimed at making it easier if you have to choose between different colours. But I'm sure you know that already. I'm sure that you are just teasing.

That isn't to deny the fact that I do have a purple addiction, though. At the supermarket one day I saw a little girl excitedly telling her mother about a purple water bottle, or something equally mundane, that she had found on the shelves. I wanted to quietly warn the mother that purple-addiction doesn't get milder over time, but in fact gets more acute. I catch myself sometimes getting just as excited over little, silly things which I don't need, and have no earthly use for, that just happen to be a lovely shade of purple.

Helen

M-M-M Mario (reminds me of K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy. . .)

What kind of "favors" do you favor? Those that you wore on your hat until they practiced deconstruction--of what were they composed? Do you have a preference for design, material, symbolism, etc.?

“Your Secret Santa” and clues galore

As I pondered weak and weary
Thinking bout my santa deary
Wondering where he or she might be
Thought perhaps I shouldn't mention
This growing sense of mindless tension
So my sadness none could see...

On the other hand....

WHERE'S MY SANTA????

Here's a ho hO HO from From Genie's SS.

I've been a Mudcatter forever, but lurk more than post. I've only left 718 messages since I registered, but more are there from before.

Hear Me, Oh Hear Me, my tastes and handle have changed over time. Though always a beginner of the traditional, I am a master of the non-musical. Can you guess who I am?

I'm not living where I'm from, but enjoy where I am. Look for the epicenter and I'll be close at hand. I look into the mists of the future, and help people on their way. PM me today!

I'm gathering stuff for my visit. I do have a question though. What are your feelings concerning the use of MP3's downloaded from the internet. All dead and gone or out-of-print for though I look to the future my heart is in the past.

Your SS

Or a base, amoral harlot,
Be not downcast, low or blue,
I'll wear double hats for you!!
Should your Santa prove a mummer

Never fear his recrudescence!
I will send you DOUBLE presents!

There was a post on October twenty-third
That I found patently absurd
Purportedly from Katlaughing's Santa Claus,
It's a load of bollocks and I know because
I'm it, they're not, and that's my final word.

Except to propose this before quitting
A hypothesis worth submitting:
Due to Polar over-staffing
Two Santas are assigned to Katlaughing,
She's a good girl by twice; its fitting.

Neither a varlet nor a harlot, thank you very much, Amos, nor a Santa dreary, one hopes. Mudlark, thou hast need of patience. Just because Walmart has had their Christmas decorations up for a month doesn't mean your SS is a dud if you haven't received a gift (or hint) yet. Worldwide web means your SS could be anywhere in the world, and it might take a while to get back to cyberspace.

Also, being a first time SS, your SS still learning the etiquette and expectations of this august position.

Since discovering that Mudlark is the person to whom gifts are to be given, your SS has been researching the elusive Mudlark, to better prepare for what's to come. The first part is the reading of all of Mudlark's posts to discover her how better to be her Santa - a labor worthy of Hercules! That woman posts a lot more frequently than her SS. What has been discoverd by this dedicated research? (1)She likes garden fresh cucumbers. Unfortunately, it's not cucumber season in her SS's garden. (2)She would rather sit on her porch and sing cowboy songs than attend a concert by a professional folksinger (an oxymoron if I ever heard one). Sounds reasonable to me. (3)Her real age, which, contrary to her SS hint is at least a decade away from crone-ism (and within 15 years of her SS's age, one way or the other.)

So have no fear; your SS is busy preparing more than coal for your stocking.

Well, I tried to cheat and use Google to ferret out my SS's quote, but got no hits at all. The hardbody was only a pipe dream anyway. Dire prognostications are sounding better every day.

But, to bring it back to perspective. I'm over 50, I love to read most anything. I listen to all kinds of music, except top-40countrywesternhip-hopdisco.I play guitar and sing and am learning electric bass on the fly.(playing every Sunday with my church's worship team.)

Hi Genie, Sounds like you've been a good little girl (woman). My elves have been checking up on you. They are very pleased with all the people that they see smiling in retirement centers around Portland, and the humming in the halls, the tapping of the feet. They were worried about reports that you've runamuck, but that seems to be over now. Keep doing what you're doing but watch out for imac attacks and remember old songs are the best songs.

Ho Ho Ho.

Here's another clue: If you didn't know better you would say that I ome in two.

Dear SS...Thank you for YOUR reassurance, and be assured in like kind that you are way ahead of me as I've yet to figure out how to address my Santee anonymously--I only hope he has more patience than I. As for musical tastes, I hasten to add this cunumdrum...I live in the country, I live in the west, but country/western is not what I love best. And while I might be disappointed to find coal in my stocking I wouldn't take amiss a few logs of seasoned oak...nights are getting a tad chilly.

Does the Goddess of Bats (or the batty goddess) have a Secret Santa? Is he/she too secretive to risk asking any leading questions? Too tongue-tied to come up with a witty quip or tease? Please reassure me you exist. Ask me something silly -- like what kind of food do my rubber squid eat.

C'mon, I wanna play. Leap right in to the merriment. I know it's only Hallowe'en . . . and there's no snow yet for reindeer tracks. But I need to be reassured or I'll have to write to the paper. Please, kind newspaperman, is there a Secret Santa?

Whine, whine, whine (sniffle).

Oh, dear, I've been away from Mudcat for a few days and missed my SS's note. Sorry, Santa! Please don't turn my present into coal!!

...or would that be a coal-black cat, singing in the alleyway? (I have a cat that I say is black, just for the sake of convenience, but he's actually black-brown-gray – and sometimes mahogany red or a dusky purple depending on the lighting!) (He prefers to "sing" in the hallway, all through the night long when I'm trying to sleep!)

A big mouse? Is this a clue???

Hmmm... my Santa said (s)he was at work... at 2:30 in the morning, Mudcat time (US Eastern Standard Time)... so either (s)he works a graveyard shift in the US or has a day job across the pond... but which pond???? Oooh, mysteries are so... so... mysterious!

But, of course, all shall be revealed in time... in a couple of MONTHS!! Auugghh! (Here's where I start singing the Chipmunk song: "We can hardly stand to wait! Please, Christmas, don't be late!!!!")
