Spanish lyrics & music were by LaCalle in 1924, English lyrics were by Albert Gamse in 1941, recorded by Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Vocalist Helen O'Connell

The song "Amapola" was popular, in English, in the 1940s, but it also has Spanish lyrics:

My question is how old are the Spanish lyrics? Were they also written in the 1920s, or was this an older Spanish song that was turned into a popular English-lyric song in the 20th C. Any background info?
