I can remember my mother being horrified and outraged by me singing it round the house when I was a teenager. One day someone will get a handle on working class prurience and hot it works.
How does a class which produces and patronises Roy Chubby Brown get outraged by Philip Larkin and DH Lawrence.

Australia's Alan Musgrove has recorded "Boozing" on his CD - The Bagman's Gazette - A collection of Australian Folk Songs" 2004. available here

Track 2 - Boozing
Learnt for the singing of Harry Cotter (b. 1899) of Binalong, NSW. Harry learnt the song during his Rugby playing days (1918-1922). On his self titled LP, produced by the Folk Song & Dance Society of Victoria in the 1970s, Harry states "Some of these Sydney teams come up to Binalong for the long weekend. That's where I got the "Boozing" song, off one of them fellers. Real big fella he was, larrikin, used to play with just the shorts. No boots or socks" This song would seem to have it's origin in the music hall although it's exact source is unknown. A version transcribed from the singing of English duo John Roberts & Tony Barrand appeared in "Sing Out!" magazine in 1974. They learnt it from Tim Hart & Maddy Prior who were also unsure of it's origin.

I've just read the other related thread "Boozing" and still no one seems to know the song writer. Apparently someone reckons it goes back to the 1920's.
I would be interested to find out - but I would offer a long shot(s).
In the event that it is not as old as stated above, could it be Barrie Roberts of Walsall, or Stan Crowther of Rotherham ?
Both great blokes are sadly passed away so I can't ask them, but annoyingly for me , the song seems to have one of their songwriting fingerprints.

Can anyone shed further light ?

The late great Hamish Imlach also sang and recorded this. It was on the album he recorded for Xtra "Ballads of the Booze" or similar title.
No CD reissue but it might feature on some Transadlantic (Castle) compilations. The vinyl shows up on e-bay from time to time.

This was recorded in the Ensign Ewart in Edinburgh. The name of the tape is 'Raising the Standard'. It was still available in the pub the last time I was there.

Jimmy Crowley's recording is on "The Boys of Fair Hill" (1977), but IIRR he has re-recorded it on CD since. Oh, and BTW: Welcome, foxbat, fellow addict!

Heard a pub song on Irish TV a year ago.

The chorus went, 'What do you think I've been doing all day?
                  'Boozing, bloody well boozing'

Not much to go on I'm afraid. Does anyone know where I can find the rest of it??!!
