In rummaging through my old 33-1/3 albums this evening I came across one that someone gave me, called Cheer Up Me Lads by The Outsiders--Joel Corey and George McKelvey. From the Chicago area, album recorded in 1963, these guys sounded great together...are they still out there singing, together, alone or otherwise?

George McKelvey left Chicago and I've not heard of him since.

Joel Corey (Cohen) became one of the most sought after voice and vocal presences in TV and radio commercials. (He made those in the Chicago area and nationally too through the 70s and into the 80s.   At one time he wore a beeper so he could get into a studio extra fast when he was needed for a voice over. And that was way before beepers were in common use. Since leaving the Chicago scene I've not been in position to hear news of people I used to run into all the time.

That was a quite a nice LP and those two guys had a good blend.

Thanks Art, for the info. Lots of good songs on that album, I still sing several, including Dance to your Daddy. Their record was the first time I heard that one.

I don't know if it's the same one, but there is a George McKelvey living in Denver, CO...I know becuase I booked him from time to time as a stand-up comedian. It could be the same person, becuase I know this George does muisc in his act (singing and guitar playing). If you do a comedian search with his name and Colorado, you can find him...pretty sure.

Nick

I sat down today to record "The Outsiders" via a my USB turntable. It is one of the first of my old records I decided to transform for my iPod. I heard those guys frequently in Chicago in the clubs on Wells St in the early 60's. Wondered where they were. So sorry to hear of McKelvey's passing.
