I asked somebody at my table if he and Maggie Boyle were still married, since I didn't see them billed together any more. Somebody at the table shushed me, and whispered that Steve was sitting at the next table, three feet away from me. Oh, gee... Well, Steve and Maggie are apparently divorced, but they performed a number of songs together at Whitby. I had a chat with him after one concert, and found him to be a really nice guy. (Actually , following Nic Jones' accident there are only two really good English guitar players, the other being Martin Simpson) Steve plays a very unusual assymetric guitar, designed and built by Martin Cole. The upper bout on the left hand side (ie the bit that makes contact with the chest) joins the body at the fourteenth fret. The upper bout on the opposing side joins the body at the sixteenth fret. As will be immediately apparent, this gives the advantages of a cutaway while maintaining the elegagnce of a traditional round shouldered guitar. The guitar is so elegantly constructed that at first glance you would never notice anything different about it. Beats me why the design hasn't been copied more. Murray |

I've seen him many times in the last couple of years in a wide range of venues, from a big auditorium (on the Fairport tour) to The Poppy House (our local cafe, with a capacity of 30) and have never been disappointed. He is a superb technician, in my opinion, and the stuff he writes bears comparison with anybody. Only little mark against was earlier this month when he was at the Loton Park do and the MC said she was worried about forgetting his name. He said she could call him what she liked as long as she didn't call him Trevor! Didn't he know his greatest fan was in the audience? (It did occur to me that he may have heard me trying to do some of his material!) Have a look here for a bit more info and contact details. |

I don't think the song can be said to have one actual time signature, it varies throughout the melody. If Steve Tilston came up with this arrangement by himself, it is just one more piece of evidence of the man's genius ... |
