This song, and the other songs from Westward Ho! The Wagons, has always been dear to me because the movie was one of the first I ever saw. I can't remember if I saw it on TV or at the movies - if the movies, it was probably the first movie I ever saw there.

I have always thought that the melody for Wringle Wrangle has something in common with the March "British Grenadiers".

One reason it stuck in my mind is the image of the guy washing and cooking a woman.

Well, I think the song is "Wringle Wrangle," sung by Fess Parker.Thankfully, my memory of the song is fading, but this is how I think it goes:

Wringle, wrangle, ding-a-dong-dangle
Whoop! Ha!
Got me a horse, I'm in love of course
Yes, I got me a pretty woman's love.

Never could figure out whether the object of his affection was the woman or the horse. Anybody got a Disney fakebook so we can get the straight scoop on this one? The movie was that 1956 classic, Westward Ho, the Wagons!

I think it was from one of Disney's frontier TV shows in the fifties. I don't think it was from Davy Crocket but something like that. Anyway, I know I heard it on TV a long time ago.

Ah, Bart!

The thing has yet to stride forth entire from the swirling mists of memory, but your line from the chorus, "An when I die, I ain't a-gonna cry, cause I got me a purty woman's love." did bring forth this scrappet of verse:

"A dollar's worth a'beans,

A new pair a'jeans

And a woman to cook and warsh...and sing;

And when I die..."

I seem to recall a rendition from a children's record years ago, but I'll have to check with my little brother. He's the "musical moke" of the family and will remember this ditty if anyone I know can.

Meanwhile, perhaps our own Gene Graham, living treasure and country-folk maven extraordinaire might have a line on where this tune originated.

I'm not sure if these are the exact words? It sounds like it comes from a folk/country music.
