Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Looking through the Windows of Heaven
From: GUEST
Date: 30 Dec 15 - 03:48 AM

1/
Last night I dreamed of Heaven,
I wanted so to enter in.
But when the Book of Life was opened,
there was my life of sin.

Chorus:
I was looking through the windows of Heaven,
I saw the Kingdom of God.
And there was the footprints of Jesus,
On the path that my Savior had trod.

2/
It seemed that I could see my mother
there in Heaven's happy throng.
With outstretched arms she came to meet me,
but I had waited too long.

3/
Oh, how my teardrops were falling,
as I tried to enter Heaven's gates.
Was so sad with the judgement upon me,
but I had waited too late.

As we wait to learn which song Helen has in mind, here's a transcription of "Looking Through the Windows of Heaven" as sung by Carl Butler, at the link Masato gave earlier:

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN

Last night I dreamed of Heaven
I wanted so to enter in
But when the book of life was opened
There was my life of sin

   CHORUS
I was looking thru the windows of Heaven
I saw the kingdom of God
And there was the footprints of Jesus
On the path that my Savior trod.

Oh, how my teardrops were falling
As I tried to enter heaven's gate
'Twas so sad with the judgement upon me
To find I was now too late

   (Chorus)

It seemed that I could see my mother
There with Heaven's happy throng
With outstretched arms she ran to meet me
But I had waited to long.

   (Chorus)

Hi, Helen-
Can you give us the lyrics you have, so we're sure we're talking about the same song?

Great idea, Greg! We could have t-shirts made. The problem is, they'd be mighty slow movers.

It would be nice if there was a sort of "I beat Masato" diploma issued that we hang on the wall.I have earned a couple, and it would look nice up by my grandfather's rugger cap for Cornwall and my handleless Lancaster Quiz League mug.

Can't help but laugh, Jerry! Hi, Masato!
By the way, I do hold the Mudcat Record for an answer including a link--one minute. I am still trying to do one within the same minite it was posted. Should be possible.

The only one I've ever seen beat Masato to the draw is you, Sorcha. I don't listen to much bluegrass gospel unless it's the old "brothers" groups or Doyle Lawson, so this one went right over my head...

If it is a bluegrass gospel song, this is the one (from Bluegrass Song Lyrics).

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN

Last night I dreamed of Heaven
I wanted so to enter in
But when the book of life was open
There was my life of sin

CHORUS
I was looking thru the windows of Heaven
I saw the kingdom of God
And there was the foot prints of Jesus
On the path that my Savior had trod.

It seems that I could see my mother
There with Heaven's happy band
With out stretched arms she ran to meet me
But I had waited to late.

Chorus

Sound clip is HERE (by Spruce Pine on 25 Years of Strictly Country); also recorded by Jimm and Jesse; Charlie Moore; the Lewis Family; Carl Butler.

~Masato
