Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Olive Tree (from Judith Durham) From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Dec 10 - 06:19 PM THE OLIVE TREE was written by Tim Springfield and Diane Lampert (some sources spell it "Lambert"). Eddy Arnold also recorded it. There's a recording at YouTube of Judith Durham, in a solo performance said to be from the Seekers' farewell concert in 1968. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Olive Tree From: Steve Parkes Date: 08 Nov 02 - 05:51 AM Thanks Barry: that sounds right. Was there a bridge to the tune too? But there are only three stanzas, so maybe not. Coinwolf, thanks for the gen. I remember the Springfields (and The Springfields)! I made a pretty thorough search before I started this thread, without any success, needless to say. Steve |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Olive Tree From: COINWOLF Date: 07 Nov 02 - 06:23 PM The Olive Tree appears on the Seekers album Say Goodbye From the Talk of the Town (EMI Records,Columbia label SCX6278) It was written specially for Judith Durham to sing by Tom Springfield. (On the record album it credits Springfield - Lampert) On the record Judith pays tribute to Tom Springfield. Tom was Dusty Springfield's brother. He was involved in many of The Seekers hits including: A world of our own, I'll never find another you, the Carnival is over etc No doubt there is a web site for him and Judith somwhere. |

Subject: Tune Req: The Olive Tree From: Steve Parkes Date: 04 Nov 02 - 10:07 AM Recorde by Judith Durham before her Seekers days. Brian Matthew played it on Saturday morning; I hadn't heard it for such a long time before someone sang it at Stonnall a few years back. I have the words, but can anyone let me have the tune? I can only remember the first couple of lines. ABC or NWC will do. And who wrote/composed it? Lyric: Tell me, white dove, where will I find the olive tree? For just one branch, I'd search my whole life through. I've heard them say a greener land is waiting there, Where people wake and find their dreams come true. High flying dove, please lead me and I'll follow you, Above the clouds, beyond the stormy sea. I long to share a world of sweet contentment there, In that bright land where grows the olive tree. So let me fly; please lead me, and I'll follow you, Above the clouds, beyond the stormy sea. I long to share a world of sweet contentment there, In that bright land where grows the olive tree. Thanks, Steve |
