Subject: Old Brits Pls Help on Music Hall Song From: GutBucketeer Date: 05 Nov 02 - 01:10 PM Calling all old, wise, and learned folks from the British Isles, that can remember Elglish Music Hall or Vaudeville from the 1920's and 1930's. Oh great and wise elders.... I beg your assistance in finding out more about a song that a friend's father learned while at Oxford in the 1930's named "Foolin' Around". She knows the words and music by heart, but nothing more about it. We are trying to find out it's history, author, if it was ever published, who/where it was performed, etc. The words can be found in this thread: Lyrics Add: Foolin' Around It is not the Jazz song by Isham Jones, or the Country and Western Song of the 1950's. Thanks for your help. JAB |
Subject: RE: Old Brits Pls Help on Music Hall Song From: Guessed Date: 06 Nov 02 - 08:30 AM Roy Hudd is a keen music hall song collector - if you can find an address for him. The Bodleain Library has a music room and 5 years ago the music curator there was in constant touch with Roy Hudd and seemed to be pretty switched on on the subject. You may have to register with the Bodleain to get in, this involves filling-in forms and getting a degree graduate to vouch for you - I would suspect they have the forms on their website. Once I had the form it took less than 15 minutes to get the pass (valid about 2 years) but maybe the system has changed. And they have a lot of info on their website now. FWIW they have the Harding Collection of Stephen Fosters lyrics - most of them first editions of the Firth Pond music sheets. |
