From: GUEST,Presidentide Nõukogu Date: 07 Nov 02 - 03:30 PM Põhjamõõde on Euroopa Liidu (EL) tegevussuund, mis peab viima stabiilsuse ja heaolu suurenemisele Läänemere piirkonnas, eelkõige tihendatud ja hästi koordineeritud majandus- ja poliitilise koostöö kaudu Euroopa põhjaosa riikide vahel!! Nie Mudcat! Tegevuskava kiideti heaks Euroopa Ülemkogul Santa Maria da Feiras 2000. aasta juunis. Subject: RE: BS: Any Mudcatters in Estonia? From: Oaklet Date: 07 Nov 02 - 08:02 PM Right, I am appalled at you all. Thread Bridge - the rules. 1) A thread is started with a ridiculous title. If the originator wants to play, they put in brackets the "goal" post that they will post to. I.e if "BS Cooking with heat (27)" appears, the poster will try to be poster no 27 2) Other posters, in subsequent posts, nominate the anticipated number that their subsequent post will appear - minimum 15 from the number of the post announcing the bid. I.e, if things are going nicely at post 37, the next available "goal" post is 52. If more than 1 poster, makes the same bid, the first on the screen is valid, the others have to re-bid. 3) Any poster failing to reach the goal post by more than 1 either way is compelled to bid on any item in the Mudcat auction. 4) Anyone landing bang on their nominated goal post can feel like Marvin Gaye for an hour. 5) No consecutive posts from the same poster are permitted. If the goal post is acheived bang on, by the use of consecutive posts. The poster may not feel like Marvin Gaye for any time at all, and must bid on one item in the auction 6) Guests may not participate, but only because of the requirement to bid in the auction, not because anonymous guests are all bad. 7) Participants will need to police the implementation of forfeits in the spirit of the forum I hope that is clear. Serves you all right for posting to a ridiculous thread in the first place |

Subject: RE: BS: Any Mudcatters in Estonia? From: GUEST,a runic folksinger Date: 08 Nov 02 - 01:32 PM The most original part of Estonian folklore, the runic folksong, originated in the 1 st millennium BC, as a result of interaction between primitive Balto-Finnic singing (warbling, keening) and the songs of the Baltic tribes. Runic songs are based on the alternation of long and short syllables. The basic runic verse line is the trochaic tetrameter, with each line generally forming a conceptual whole. A song is constructed by the repetition of the concept of a line of verse in subsequent lines. The words are tied within the verse by alliteration and assonance. There are approximately 3,600 runic song types and 133,000 variations. The tunes have limited scope, but are rich in variations. The oldest are songs with myth themes, keenings, spells and family ballads; when agriculture became established, work and ritual songs with a magic function developed. Most of the surviving songs are from the serfdom period, when the singers were mainly women, and the content female-oriented. Due to the conditions of serfdom, the songs were mainly elegy-style and satirical, rarely is joy or love expressed. |

Subject: RE: BS: Any Mudcatters in Estonia? From: Eric the Viking Date: 08 Nov 02 - 04:08 PM There is a band called "The brothers urb" who were banned from Estonia in pre freedom days. They made a CD called "Citizens of the sun" some nice folky music/politacal- abit. but worth listening to.I was givne it by a friend from Estonia about 2 years ago when she came over to the UK. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any Mudcatters in Estonia? From: Lepus Rex Date: 08 Nov 02 - 07:19 PM See, this just pisses me off. I though maybe Oakley was really curious about Estonia, Estonians, and their culture. But, no. The thought of Estonian Mudcatters is "ridiculous" to Oakley. Nevermind that we have several Finnish Mudcatters from just 50 miles across the Gulf of Finland, or that Estonia has a higher per capita rate of internet connectivity than France. I mean, Estonia is a landlocked nation of leiderhosen-clad goatherds, somewhere between Albania and Bhutan, right? Ho-ho! Estonian Mudcatters! Hilarious! Oakley is showing the same ignorant, chauvinistic attitude displayed several times over the years by certain Mudcatters towards newcomers from "ridiculous" nations (Thinking especially of when two Mudcatters viciously attacked Karolina for expressing her interest in sea chanties, which apparently would be of no interest to a dumb Polka.), and I hate to see this sort of thing again. Oakley, there have been two good links to Estonian folk music sites on your idiotic thread. Why not go educate yourself? ---Lepus Rex |

Subject: RE: BS: Any Mudcatters in Estonia? From: smallpiper Date: 09 Nov 02 - 11:59 AM I had a discussion with the aforementioned king of drivel, oakley, in the car on the way to a session last week and he told me he was going to start this thread out of honest down to earth curiosity. IT would apear that if he attatches his name to a thread it automatically attracts drivel merchants (like mesel) and that is as it should be, because then we know all is well with the world (i.e.SNAFU!). For those of you who have attacked him - the laugh is on you. Long live Estonia and may their music florish and grow(especially in North Lincolnshire) |
