Subject: Chord Req: London Homesick Blues From: pattyClink Date: 08 Nov 02 - 11:12 PM Okay, I give up. I can't find chords for the Armadilla Song anywhere. (Well I did find one spot on the net with chords but they just skipped chording on the lines where it got tough). PLease, I'm not asking for anybody to write out the words or even all the chords. Just what's the deal on the line that goes "you can put up your dukes, or bet your boots" I can feel the chord changes but I just can't put my finger on 'em. If any chord wizard (or poor soul who has had to play this in every dive in Texas) can tell me "yah, ya bum, any moron can hear it's yer VI sustained 12th followed by a minor 9th on the tonic" , well, I would be proud and humbled. I'm working on it in C if that helps. |
Subject: LYR & TAB ADD: London Homesick Blues From: katlaughing Date: 16 Nov 02 - 09:30 PM Is this the one, patty? London Homesick Blues Gary P. Nunn From the album, "Viva Terlingua", by Jerry Jeff Walker, 1973 1st verse [G] Well, when you're down on your luck, and you ain't got a buck, in [D] London you're a goner. Even London Bridge has fallen down, and [G] moved to Arizona, now I know [C] why. And I'll substantiate the rumor that the English sense of humor is [G] drier than than the Texas sand. You can put up your dukes, and you can bet your boots that I'm [D] leavin' just as fast as I can. Chorus [G] I wanna go [C] home with the [G] arma [Am] dillo Good country [C] music from Ama [D] rillo and Abi [G] lene The friendliest [C] people and the prettiest [D] women you've ever [G] seen. 2nd Verse [G] Well, it's cold over here, and I swear I [D] wish they'd turn the heat on. And where in the world is that English girl I [G] promised I would meet on the third [C] floor. And of the whole damn lot, the only friend I've got is a [G] smoke and a cheap guitar. My mind keeps roamin', my heart keeps longin' to be [D] home in a Texas bar. Chorus 3rd Verse [G] Well, I decided that I'd get my cowboy hat and [D] go down to Marble Art Station. 'Cause when a Texan fancies, he'll take his chances. [G] Chances will be taken, that's for [C] sure. And them Limey eyes, they were eyein' the prize that some [G] people call manly footwear. And they said you're from down South, and when you open your mouth, you [D] always seem to put your foot there. Repeat chorus 'til the cows come home. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: London Homesick Blues From: Rick Fielding Date: 17 Nov 02 - 12:55 AM Hi Patty. You're absolutely right about that line. I'm afraid the person who put the chords to the lyrics that kat posted finked out on two of them. So here they are: Em//// Eb7//// followed by D or D7th. Now I have no idea how experienced a guitarist you are but here's an easy Eb7. Just play a C7 three frets higher, and don't play the 6th or the 1st strings. The Eb7 that Garry Nunn plays is a bit more interesting and involves moving the Em shape BACK one fret....but that's another story. Cheers Rick Hi kat |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: London Homesick Blues From: pattyClink Date: 17 Nov 02 - 10:05 PM Thank you! That's what I needed, and I AM a shabby enough guitar-banger to need advice on the Eb7. Let me go try that. While I was puzzling on this, I ran across a bright young fellow, otherwise musical, who had NEVER HEARD this song. Oh, the weight of passing on the folk tradition. We must press ever forward. And while we are pondering this sacred trust to posterity, there is a Marble Arch station, but no Marble Arts. anyway, THANKS! Viva Terlingua!! And you cows, come home, or we'll keep singing! |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords ADD:London Homesick Blues(Gary P. Nunn) From: GerryM Date: 24 Sep 24 - 06:46 PM "armadillo" in the chorus should be capitalized. It refers, not to the animal, but to Armadillo World Headquarters, which was "an influential Texas music hall and beer garden in Austin." In the song, Gary P Nunn sings "Armadilla" and "Amarilla". I don't know why. |
