Subject: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: Peter T. Date: 09 Nov 02 - 11:31 AM This is a great album, 2 cds, just out the last week. Fabulous. Anyone who likes AK and US will love this album, it captures this incredibly talented bunch at its best -- they are hot and driving throughout. I saw them in Massey Hall in Toronto a year ago, and I was impressed about what a good time they were having. As were we. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: Peter T. Date: 10 Nov 02 - 10:36 AM Listened to it again last night, and it is even better -- could have done without some of the dopy audience though -- Louisville, Kentucky, you should be ashamed -- almost ruins a beautiful song like "Maybe". I imagine there was some virtual hanging of audience members going on. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: ballpienhammer Date: 10 Nov 02 - 06:09 PM two reasons I hate "live" albums= 1. Audience 'participation' and, 2. lousy acoustics/recording mike placement. |
Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: black walnut Date: 11 Nov 02 - 09:30 AM Excellent, Peter! It'll be in my husband's Christmas stocking. "Live" can be great. Bruce Cockburn preceded by bagpipes at Massey Hall, for instance. And Rick Fines' Live at The Harvest is one of the best CD's I've EVER heard. However, Stephen Fearing telling that same joke about Toronto and Vancouver again and again and again and again and again and....I could do without. ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: black walnut Date: 14 Nov 02 - 03:25 PM Just bought it. Great price.....2 CD's costing no more than the usual price of one! Now, do I have the willpower to wait til Christmas??? ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: Steve Latimer Date: 15 Dec 02 - 11:25 AM Peter, I'll go get it today. I've mentioned that I haven't been knocked out by the little bit of Allison Krauss that I've heard, but maybe I've just heard the wrong stuff. Hopefully this will make me a believer. |
Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: Steve Latimer Date: 22 Dec 02 - 09:19 PM Well, I was a week late getting it, but I'm well into it now, just listeneing to Jerry Douglas solo. Great band and I'm warming up to Allison. I think I'll like it. |
Subject: RE: Alison Krauss/Union Station Live Album From: John Hardly Date: 22 Dec 02 - 09:51 PM kinda funny, I really like AKUS...I mean, I tend to like their song selection and appreciate that they don't dismiss the value of some great and/or overlooked pop material. I like their treatment of the material on a song by song basis too. But for some reason I just never really liked their recordings as a whole CD -- they just seemed to run out of gas for me.... ...until this one. The live vibe really brings a greater energy to the recordings. Though I really miss the Steffe mando bits (and for that matter, my personal favorite configuration was with Jeff White for other vocals and John Pennell penned some of my favorite tunes), I really like this recording. 'cept they need to speed the tempo of "Ghost In This House". I have it live, taped from Austin City Limits and I gotta say that this dirge pace of the last two recordings just ruins (hides) a great bit of songwriting. |
