Another find (at least to *me*) in the category 'great female voices of the 60s' is Joan Toliver doing songs in a Judy Henske / Karen Dalton / Barbara Dane / Judy Roderick vein like 'High Flying Bird', 'Black Crow Flying', 'Wayfaring Stranger', etc. On her first (?) album Bruce Langhorne does a great job as arranger/guitarist.
As I (again) tried to gather the (few) facts I know about this lady in a discography (adding some sound clips) at http://www.wirz.de/music/toliver.htm I appreciate any additions/corrections !!!

This is completely off the subject but the lady's name is a very special and interesting one. The name Tolliver comes from Louisiana. It is a southern American mispronounciation of Taliaferro. I'm told that all Tollivers stem from this line. Isn't that great?

More thread creep.
Tol(l)ivers are known fron the 1600-1700s in North America, and not just the south.
Some in England were using the spelling as early as 1525-1570 (a William Toliver, Norfolk); others from the early 18th C. are listed in genealogies. There are Tollivers in Yorkshire.
The name is especially well-known in the south because of the Tolliver Plantation and other Tolliver enterprises. Not all are descended from a Robert Taliaferro who came to Virginia in the 1600s.

Many Taliafer(r)os in the London-Surrey area in the 16th C. The name is traced back to the invasion of 1066, but the name Tol(l)iver may also have arisen independently.

I must admit to never having heard of Joan Toliver, but John McCutcheon uses the name in his 'Christmas in the Trenches', which starts 'My name is Francis Tolliver, I come from Liverpool'.
