Subject: Savannah Mountain Home (instrumental) From: Ebbie Date: 10 Nov 02 - 03:34 PM Does anyone know this tune? A friend says it's a beautiful fiddle tune from the late 40s, on 78 rpm; the flipside was either Limehouse Blues or Dodging a Divorce. He doesn't remember who recorded it. Google, Dogpile and Metacrawler don't find it. Thanks much. |

Subject: Lyr Add: MY OLD SAVANNAH HOME From: Sorcha Date: 11 Nov 02 - 09:59 AM Could it be My Old Savannah Home? Check out the info on the page at bottom.......... Where de balmy airs am sighin' and de roses catch de dew, And de mockin' birds am singin' in de trees. Deres a charmin' little city and I'll ebber hold it true, I'se brought up amongst its butterflies and bees. Thro' its pastures an' green fields I've played de whole day long, Yet from dem all I've been obliged to roam. But when I think of the happy times, de merry song and dance, I long to see my Old Savannah Home. Chorus I long to see ma home again and feel its scented breeze, Through its sunny streets I long to roam, I long to hear dem mockin' birds a-singin' in de trees, Dat grew around ma old Savannah Home. Subject: RE: Savannah Mountain Home (instrumental) From: Ebbie Date: 12 Nov 02 - 02:47 AM Sorcha, thanks. I'll check with my friend. In another thread there's a great discussion of the niceties and legalities of re-writing lyrics. It strikes me that this song is quite lovely in any vernacular: Where the balmy airs are sighing and the roses catch the dew, And the mockingbirds are singing in the trees. There's a charming little city and I'll ever hold it true, I was brought up amongst its butterflies and bees. Through its pastures and green fields I've played the whole day long, Yet from them all I've been obliged to roam. But when I think of the happy times, the merry song and dance, I long to see my Old Savannah Home. Chorus I long to see my home again and feel its scented breeze, Through its sunny streets I long to roam, I long to hear the mockingbirds a-singing in the trees, That grew around my old Savannah Home. |

Subject: RE: Savannah Mountain Home (instrumental) From: Murray MacLeod Date: 12 Nov 02 - 04:37 AM That is indeed quite a pleasnt tune. A little predictable perhaps, one of those melodies that you know exactly where it's going after the first four bars, but pleasant nonetheless. Murray |
